Title: A super buy.
Review: It functions flawlessly, and we use it as a base unit for the 5 watt units the kids keep in their cars. I may not care for the government of communist China, but they often shoot themselves in the foot while doing us a favor. A local gent runs a radio repair business and briefed me on the Bao Feng back story. Comparable units made in Japan used to cost $300 or more. China decided to drive the Japanese out of the market by underselling them dramatically, then taking the market over, requiring them to sell every unit at a dramatic loss. Sadly for them, and happily for us, the U.S. government shut down their scheme and hit Bao Feng with regulatory violations. The finale was Baofeng having to essentially dump their product at a fraction of their production cost. Get the optional long antenna, it really makes a difference.

Title: You need a FCC license to transmit using these radios.
Review: These are small powerful radios. Solidly built. The booklet that comes with them has very small print and my 75 year old eyes had a tough time with it but I have managed to program the frequencies I’ll be using the most. So far I really like these radios.

Title: High quality multi function radio
Review: The new Baofeng 5rm is brings a whole new experience to the hand held radio world. Not only communicating on the 2m and 70mm band, the radio also has the ability to monitor a wide rang of radio bands such as air traffic control. The shipping is fast as you can get the radio on the next day. It also comes with the 15” GV-771 antenna, which ham radio operators know it’s a go to when coming to hand held radios. With this antenna and the 10w high output of this radio, the simplex communication range could reach around more than 30-50 miles with no obstacles and 5-7 miles on a city highway. The VOX function can make the radio being voice activated. With and the headset, it allows the radio to be used when you have your hand occupied, which is an ideal function in driving and extreme sports. By the way, according to FCC regulations, license is required if you wanted to operate on the ham radio bands. But you can operate this radio on the FRS bands like most walkie-talkies do with no license required.

Title: A very nice collection
Review: The appealing price of this ham radio caught my attention, and I was impressed by its solid construction. It includes a 771 antenna and programming cable, which is very convenient to use. What amazed me the most was how effortlessly I could connect to local 2m/70cm and GMRS repeaters, allowing me to communicate with friends’ GMRS Radio. Additionally, it can be effortlessly programmed using CHIRP. Overall, it was an excellent shopping experience!
