A quick rundown of this product’s key features:
A community of quirky, mismatched, and endearing women struggle to find meaning and purpose on a ramshackle monastery in upstate New York. Having spent their lives in service to a church that seems to no longer serve them, they are confused about their own futures and the future of the entire monastery.
Led by Mike, the practical, no-nonsense prioress, and Augusta, the grand ancient mystic hermit, they are joined by Gemma, a self-punishing novice, and Arielle, a firebrand jailhouse conversion who was sent there out of rehab by a “sort of angel”. The personalities, commitments, philosophies, and beliefs of these and all the characters conflict and converge in ways at once perilous and enlightening. Throughout the tempestuous journey, Augusta’s magical sacred teas draw the inevitable closer and closer.
Mystic Tea is a contemporary love story between young and old, franchised and disenfranchised, pedestrian and mystic. Most of all, it is a story of female empowerment, as the women find the courage to confront epic challenges, creating a surprising future from the oppressive ashes of the past. It will make you smile as much as it will make you think.

Title: Nuns
Review: A fun, poinent trip along the road to the Sisterhood for two girls. One with a serious condition that no one knew about. The other is a free spirit. A story of relationships between the novices and the senior sisters.

Title: Living River
Review: I liked the magic, the enchantment, augury as a defense in powerless predicaments and yet a useful survival technique. We all experience powerlessness. Children dealing with trauma, adults dealing with life. The magic, spiritual and witchy unknown to but useful in accepted reality that can support us as we navigate the waters of daily helpless situations. I enjoy those stories that anthropomorphize in order to move characters through difficult situations.I recommend this book to those who find solace in nature and learn from parallel situations through author use of metaphor, sensory connection with nature and those who find judging others difficult.

Title: This would be great for Senior Highschool English class analysis
Review: I greatly enjoyed this book. To me this is a three main-pronged braided storyline. We follow a “Mother Superior” of a convent who is also the current caretaker of her mentor, the previous Mother Superior, who in turn had served directly under and was mentored by the founder of their Order. Then we also follow the growth stories of two young women who are of vastly different background being called (unknowingly by them) to fill the roles of those two women. One of these women had never before considered becoming a nun and only went to the convent because while she was in jail getting sober she received a divine angelic calling/revelation. This young woman also happened to be an unknowing seer, having chalked everything up to drug induced hallucinations her entire life. The other woman was a twin that had absorbed her sister in utero, but grew up with the spirit of her sister stuck to her. Then we come to a fourth plot, the growth of the order itself. There is also a fifth plot, the growth of the individual aged remaining handful of nuns.As a person whose skeleton has shown evidence of having absorbed a twin, I can relate with that character, although I did not become the religious zealot of a nun she was at the point of meeting the character. I was granted a firm support network whereas she was not. I also found myself identifying with our current on-paper Mother Superior, being a biological mother and a matriarch for my tiny branch of my main family. With similar responsibilities it is an extremely easy thing to do. And yet I also found myself identifying with our untaught seer, since I also would speak to rivers, although it was more often trees where I grew up, and found myself experiencing an interest amount of luck.I found this to be a liberating tale. I rode the highs and lows of the characters and grumbled at them when they dug their heels on things that they needed to come to grips with. I loved the amount of simple life magic, the angels being a real thing, the transcendence (literal) within the tale. I think this would actually be very deserving a tale to be taken into high school senior English classes for reading and discussion. The religious tone, despite being such an obvious part of the story, also clearly separates the religious from the spiritual… a discussion that needs to be had with young men and women at the point in time that they are figuring themselves out and getting ready to set off on their own foray into adulthood and what it means to be human.

Title: One of the best books I’ve read
Review: I loved this book so much, magical, moving, philosophical and so enjoyable. I am an avid reader and I read very quickly but I forced myself to take my time, made notes and stopped reading in order to make this story last longer. You must keep your mind open, enjoy the development of the characters and the pure joy of the book, understanding that anything is possible

Title: Beautiful story beautifully written
Review: I read a lot, often thick books with complex topics. Occasionally one has to stretch and shake it all off with a new fresh breath of good air. This book is that without being silly or frivolous. It’s a unique story line with unique characters that are easy to love all walking a path together but on their own terms. So glad they invited me along!

Title: Religion with many twists and turns.
Review: A convent of elderly nuns has to adjust to two novices who decided to become nuns. Many twists and turns in the entire book. The youngsters certainly keep the nuns questioning their faith, their lifestyle and each other. A surprising outcome for all.

Title: mystical
Review: Not what I expected, wasn’t sure as I read how it would ever blend so many different personalities together. But it did become a cohesive story and I warmed to the story and the charachters. A pleasant read.

Review: One of my favourite reads this year! Mystic Tea takes you on a rollercoaster ride of the heart, mind, and soul. Full of quirky characters real enough to leave the printed page to come sit and share a cuppa with you, it’s sure to entertain. From a myriad of backgrounds and situations, this mixed bunch of nuns and bride-of-God hopefuls each has to confront epic challenges. Mike the prioress with her doubts and anger, who not only needs to find a way forward for herself but also her community. The Relic, aka Augusta, the ancient reclusive nun who makes prophetic teas. Gemma with her inner demons. The craft-fair and Beapop and the others. All of whom fast fall in love with the newest arrival, Arielle, a newly recovering drug addict who claims an angel sent her. As the blurb states: The personalities, commitments, philosophies and beliefs of these and all the characters conflict and converge in ways at once perilous and enlightening. A good clean read that will make you think, smile, worry, and ponder. Give it a go. You’ll love it. I did!

Review: This is an enjoyable, quirky and engaging tale centred on the apparent anachronism of nuns in a monastery in the modern environment. This seemed to me an unlikely premise for a an exciting read, but the author pulls it off with aplomb. The likeable, flawed characters are well drawn, the plot moves along at a brisk pace and the dialogue is sparkling. The alternating point of view maintains interest and the present tense lends immediacy. There is some amusing reflection on the relationships between the old and the young, especially concerning the advent of new technology and some acute observational humour on faith and mysticism. The multiple plot strands are well balanced and there is a satisfying denouement with all the strands tied together. A well written and heart warming novel.
