Title: Excellent Spotify Connect sound bar
Review: I bought this to use in a home gym with Spotify Connect for playing music. This seems to be the only under-$200 sound bar that supports Spotify Connect. This review is strictly about using the Spotify Connect functionality. The sound bar is simple and easy to set up, with just a power connection needed. You need to download the Yamaha Sound Bar app to update the firmware first and to connect to WiFi. Once that is done, you don’t need the app anymore. Everything can be controlled from the Spotify app. Even the sound bar volume can be changed using a popup slider on the Spotify app (NOT the volume control of the phone). The sound bar stays on and is always available (does not power off or go to standby) which is what I wanted. It is available from any phone connected to the same WiFi network; the device automatically shows up as YAS 109 in the Spotify device list. You don’t really need the remote once you do the initial setup, unless you want to change any advanced setting like subwoofer volume. The sound quality is excellent for a smaller area like a home gym, especially at this price point and without a separate subwoofer. Spotify Connect works perfectly without any glitches, and I’m very happy with the purchase.

Title: Built-in speakers on today’s TV are horrible. This Yamaha soundbar is so much better.
Review: I received this ATS-2090 soundbar from Yamaha in renewed condition. It arrived professionally repackaged, in custom formed protective styrofoam and each major component in a sealed plastic bag. The only piece which showed any evidence of prior use was one of the two power cords. The twist tie used to secure it was slightly distorted. No parts or documentation were missing. The firmware on the unit was out of date, but the sound bar automatically updated itself as soon as it was connected to my home WiFi network. I might comment that it (the soundbar) only supports 2.4GHz wireless networks. There is no 5GHz WiFi support. I had no problems installing the app on my iPhone, and I find the app easy to navigate and extremely useful. The sound quality is so much better than the built-in speakers on my bargain 40″ flat panel TV. I knew the built-in speakers were bad, but after enjoying this sound bar it would be impossible to go back. I did adjust the bass level to +0 (it is set to +3 as a default) and I turned off the “bass extension” option using the app. With these adjustments, the bass from the wireless subwoofer integrates reasonably well and really accentuates most any TV program or movie soundtrack. I do have the wireless subwoofer located a few inches away from the wall, near a corner of the room, and just behind the TV itself. The actual connectivity took a little bit of experimentation. This is not a problem with the soundbar itself, but rather a consequence of the technology. My TV does not have an ARC capable HDMI connection. I am currently using the HDMI pass-through feature of the sound bar, and I have not connected the optical cable. My TV input comes only from an Android TV device, which streams content from a DLNA server, as well as Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc. The pass-through works perfectly for this application. It will still require a small learning curve for my family to become accustomed to turning the soundbar on prior to use, or perhaps I will need to defeat the auto power off feature (as described in the manual).I did experiment with the CEC settings on my TV to prevent devices from turning on or off unexpectedly, and I think I also needed to set the HDMI audio output setting on my Android device to PCM, Dolby Digital, or DTS. This is all noted in the Yamaha documentation. Again, further trial & error with CEC settings may be helpful, as it would be nice if the sound bar faithfully turned on & off with the TV.I would definitely purchase this sound bar again, especially at the renewed price. I’m considering buying a second for the TV set in the rec room… can I run two of the wireless subs in the same household without problems? Highly recommended.(10/18 – edited for grammar and writing style)11/20 – Owned for over a month now. I’m still extremely pleased. There’s been no weird situations where “it just stopped working” or anything like that. Totally would buy again.

Title: Could be louder, flawed Alexa and app, bluetooth is glitchy more than 13 ft from device
Review: Update #2: I increased the stars from 2 to 4. Would I buy it again?yes. Would I spend more than $200 to $250 no, def not, but at that price it is worth it if you are willing to hit a few buttons to fix the stupid standby settings. It’s loud enough to have a box fan running = a decent noise level and still hear voices when movies are quiet vs the action scenes. I say a box fan as a universal noise level sonyou all know how loud. I can also hear it over my pellet stove, and with the stovetop fan in the kitchen on the otherside of the room. The larger alexa echo could not make enough sound but this can. My goal was the loudest sand bar for under $200. The echo was better bc you could just say “alexa comnect to bluetooth” but the Yamaha alexa function is garbage so we just use the remote to power it on and or hit Bluetooth.Update #1: Fixing the horrible auto standby = ADB debugging the fire stick and editing the command line file to set screen off time to zero did not help. Yamaha made the auto standy 10 minutes, are you kidding me, make a sandwich, coffee, bathroom, phone call, you name it and you are basically guaranteed to go into your settings to reconnect bluetooth to your TV, fire stick, projector, etc! 10.minutes spunds like a lot of time but the whole family constantly hated it and I heard complaints daily. It’s the worst setting ever! I alsmost returned the soundbar. To fix this hours of researching led to redit posts about the well known and hated auto standby. To fix it = Hold down the button with the arrow in the box and press and hold power for about 5 seconds until the clear voice led lights up and it will reboot, that’s it!!! My whole family hated how it was never just plug and play and always required turning on or connecting the bar half a dozen times a day!!!!! Really!!!!! It should be set and forget it, arg. As I did if you turn off the firestick screensaver and edit the command line mentioned above, then turn off the yamaha auto standby then when you turn on the TV or projector then you can hit Bluetooth on the remote then it will auto connect. It will stay connected for a long time with the TV off. I turned off Alexa and plugged in my echo 4th gen again. Alexa w yamaha has a longer delay to “wake” to speak your request, (it only a second or two longer but if you have spent years using alexa then the yamaha won’t get your whole command if you don’t wait long enough. How can a $50 echo speaker have more RAM then a $400 sound bar? It’s like pioneer car reciever vs newer Android recivers that have 10x more ram to process more than the most expensive Yamaha sound device made today. Also saying “connect to Bluetooth doesn’t work so thus we figured out the bluetooth button on the remote works. Using bluetooth to connect to the fire stick vs via the projectors bluetooth has a voice to video delay about every 15 to 30 minutes. I fix this by pausing the show for a couple seconds. When connected to the optoma projector it never has a sound to video delay even when we previously used the the firestick but the Yamaha doesn’t like to connect to the projector easily for some reason. The echo connected to the projector by just saying “Alexa, connect to bluetooth” So the yamaha is disappointing in a few ways, but liud enough to work :(Original post – everytime I turn the TV off it lowers the sound and voices are barely audible. To turn up the volume the app says 100%, but the hand remote can turn it up more. The speaker auto turns off after turning off the TV and all day. The TV doesn’t auto turn on the speaker so you have to turn it on each time and turn up the volume each time vs an Alexa speaker. Yamaha Alexa will not do it as well which would be nice like an echo. I think you should be able to turn up the highs/mids/lows individually esp to turn up the highs to hear esp netflix voices louder. Alexa has a lot of flaws – it will not turn the volume up/connect to Bluetooth when told “Alexa connect to Bluetooth”/or do other things that the echo devices can do. I bought this for a louder Echo type device vs the echo 4th gen and it has a lot of annoying flaws. it turns light lights on or off for example 50% of the time vs 95% of the time with an echo (alexa delay lag vs an echo) Now I’m thinking I will turn off the Alexa function and plug the echo 4th gen back in.

Title: Great sound bar. Absolute steal at the discounted price
Review: Clear sound, good bass extension. I upgraded from an SR-C20A and it’s exactly what I was hoping it would be. Highs are more crisp (as there are dedicated tweeters in this), mid-range is still very clear, and the subwoofer extends the bass. I especially like the sound profile and the center unit and the subwoofer – they are very well paired. If I had spent $350 I think I may be a little more picky but for the price it’s currently going for ($169) there’s nothing not to like.

Review: My criteria when I bought this soundbar was to 1. Extend the speaker capabiliies of my TV 2. Have better voice clarity when we watched movies and TV shows. TV speakers have a tendency to amplify background and drown out dialogues. This absolutely didn’t disappoint. At a very affordable price, the YAS 109 delivers “clear voice” that makes dialogues clear and makes music sound great.I wall mounted it, very easy to so using the mounting guide. WIFI setup was a breeze though the app on Play Store has terrible reviews. Alexa integration is very good and again was easy to setup. If you have a TV that supports ARC (most modern LED TVs do), you are set. The package DOES NOT include a HDMI cable. Make sure you order a good cable like blue rigger.Overall great buy at an affordable price.

Review: It’s been about 6 months that I have been using this product and I think it’s perfect for the cost you pay. The audio quality is sublime. The installation process was simple. Had a small issue at first but the seller was really sweet and help get it rectified at the earliest. The drawback I faced was that it’s not very friendly to the Mi TV. You need to set it to TV mode manually. The rest is fine. The bluetooth range is short but not a deal breaker.
