Title: First test very accurate?
Review: As is normal for the beginning of my vegetable garden season, I had the raised beds garden soil tested for amending by my state agriculture department. This time the report stated my PH is 6.6 and was high for my intended usage. Before amending for potatoes and squash, I purchased this kit to test and compare its results with my state’s current results, hopefully so I can monitor the affects of amending- using a home PH test kit.The initial test result using this test kit and viewing the closest match of the color bands using the same soil tested by my state a week ago, was ~ 6.5 (this kit only has 0.5 resolution.) I am pleased with this result. However, per this kit’s instructions, one mixes the soil and water and then must wait for 30 minutes for complete stratification of the mixture to occur. Even after 2 hours of waiting, my water was still fairly cloudy, and I tested anyway. I have no idea if this lack of total stratification affects the results. At this point I am going to depend upon this kit’s results for PH monitoring.

Title: Was fun playing scientist but results don’t seem accurate…water alone comes out as 4.5 pH???
Review: The strips definitely differentiate between a solution with soil and water (alone) but my attempt to verify the strips were “calibrated” seemed to indicate they are off pretty substantially. Water only samples (both from the sink, rain water and bottled water) all come up with a pH around 4.5 instead of 7.0 which is neutral (it’s those 3 separate strips on the bottom). My soil sample (middle row) looks like it is in the 7.0 range (middle set of strips) but does that mean it’s actually basic (b/c it is substantially higher than just the water samples)??? I mixed some baking soda in water to make sure it could indicate a base and as you can see, it did (top strip) but again, the question is should that pH number actually be adjusted a few pH points higher b/c water (that should be neutral at 7.0). Even though these results are largely useless to me and I will try another method, the strips do seem to differentiate between various fluids and they were low enough in price that my expectations weren’t very high.

Title: Horribly inaccurate kit
Review: This test kit will cause you a ton of needless stress! My soils all kept testing at the lowest pH levels, between 3.5 and 5. I was really worried! Then I tested the same water from the soil samples using a professional quality Apera pH tester, and the liquid was at pH 7.9! No bueno, amigo. I would return this kit, but my window has closed. Definitely would not recommend this kit to anyone.
