Title: Why buy anything else, what a value !
Review: Why buy anything else, what a value ! I use this to make an image of my boot drive. SSD to SSD backup takes me 20 minutes for a 400 GB backup. This is a much better value compared to other brands charging $100. Buffalo is a good brand.

Title: Very excellent product
Review: It looks like a USB flash drive, and it is the size of a USB flash drive, but it is actually an SSD. Although it is more expensive, it brings high-speed reading. I think it is worth the price. I would definitely recommend this product.

Review: Using as backup drive for my new PC. Price and name brand were main drivers in purchase. Speed seems reasonable no issues with PC interface.

Title: Good but be careful
Review: Surprisingly good for the price, especially the 500GB. Fast and so far they’ve been reliable. I was running 5 of those with Stabebit Drivepool as kind of a useful experiment for a compact file server with some redundancy, and they’ve done really well… They do tend to get a pretty warm since the case is plastic and the air doesn’t really have anywhere to go.I just bought two 1TB to swap in and those are way worse heat-wise. Work fine, but they run so hot during transfers that I’m probably going to pop them all out of the cases and mount tiny heat sinks on them. I caught one running 83c, it was so high it made my SMART monitor freak out and say imminent failure. Once I cooled them down with a fan, all was well. Both of them seem to be about the same. The SMART stats themselves are presented in a strange way on the 1TB so I wonder if those numbers are even accurate (I’m seeing negative decimal numbers for reads and writes, don’t know what to make of that) but the case was hot to the touch. For the price and form factor, I still find it hard to beat these even if I have to modify them for my use. I think it cost me about $80 a few years ago to make something very similar myself with a small aluminum enclosure, a 2242 SSD, and some thermal pads. That’s probably closer to $100 now and it gets pretty hot too.Update: I took apart a few of these and put some tiny heat sinks on the chips, some paint on the LEDs to make them a little less obnoxious without the case. Idle temp dropped ~20c without even pointing a fan at them and load temps are looking pretty good so far too. Not recommending you void your warranty so be mindful of that, but it does help. Once I do my initial tests and they’ve seen data I will not be sending them back, so all is good over here.

Title: Good when it was working but turned out to be cheap garbage
Review: When it worked it was great. $56 for a 1TB that has 350MB/s read and 340MB/s write, not bad. However, I had a lot of data corruption after about a month. Contacted Buffalo Support and they insisted it was a user error and kept trying to troubleshoot it. I played along and after I followed their recommendations it made it significantly worse bringing my speed down to a crawl slower than my hard drive. To make matters worse, support tried to completely scam me and refuse to honor my warranty. Claiming that sincd it still “worked” which BTW working to them is reading and writing at 40MB/s when it’s supposed to be over 300MB/s is downright scummy and I won’t be buying Buffalo products again. I contacted Amazon after and they were super cool and understanding and had an actual brain and could figure out that my drive not working as intended was not working as intended, “shocker.” Big props to Amazon. It would take minutes to an hour to reserve space for a steam game, which normally takes seconds. My games would just delete themselves after every use. Constantly redownloading 150GB+ games every single time I want to play them is worthless as a storage device. If you are the lucky ones who get a really well made and free of defects one I think I would recommend it. However, since I didn’t, don’t bother and spend an extra 20-30 to get a better one from better brands like Samsung, SanDisk etc.
