Title: Excellent choice for new vegans!
Review: Ok, so first of all, I am NOT a vegan. I’m not even a vegetarian. I’m a 64 year old 5’7″ 260# woman whose Dr just told her she has high cholesterol and is one bite away from being a diabetic. So yeah, that got my attention and I thought I better start paying a little more attention to my diet. I read a couple of books about plant based diets and thought it wouldn’t hurt me to at least try it but honestly, I had no idea where to start. I’m from the South, accustomed to having bacon, eggs and hash browns or sausage, biscuits and gravy for breakfast and practically everything I eat has cheese on it. So, I bought this cookbook and it came in last week. I read through it and picked out the recipes that sounded good. Then I had to go to Kroger because I didn’t have most of the ingredients. To be real, I’d never even tried things like almond or cashew milk. I guarantee I never ate tofu and had never even heard of tempeh so I wasn’t expecting much but y’all, I can’t believe how good this stuff tastes!! So far I’ve made the Granny’s apple pie overnight oats, bravacado toast, blueberry lemon pancakes, pink elephant and blueberry fields smoothies, the super loaded veggie wrap, balsamic pasta salad, creamy mushroom pasta and the big boss burrito. These recipes are easy to put together. They’re no more time consuming than I was used to cooking with meat. The most time consuming thing is chopping up all the vegetables but it’s no big thing. Now, here’s the clencher: I feel better! I’m sleeping better, I have more energy and I’ve actually lost 5 lbs this week. I haven’t changed anything else so I know it from eating better. Anyway, I can’t say enough about this cookbook. I didn’t think I’d like it and have lived every recipe I’ve tried so far. Amazing!

Title: A real, useable plant-based cookbook
Review: Like I suspect most people, I’ve bought too many cookbooks only to be disappointed because they are full of ingredients that have to be special ordered, or complicated recipes. This book is not a disappointment. The ingredients are clearly explained and laid out. The steps for assembling the recipes are clearly explained and laid out. So far I have found absolutely nothing in any recipe that required a special trip anywhere to buy it. Most of the ingredients are reasonably priced. I can’t think of a single bad thing to say about it. If you’re looking for a plant-based cookbook that you can actually use, this is it. Totally recommend

Title: Es perfecto cumple todas mis expectativas!

Title: Clean eating-ish
Review: Firstly I’m not Vegan or vegetarian either. I have friends who are and one of them has this book and it looked like a good veggie supplement book for my 80-90-% clean cooking. I’ve been a Paleo/ very low carbs almost no processed food cook for over 15 years. And a Health Coach. My review of reading through the recipes is this:1) very good intro to how to cook with only plants and for people wanting to improve the food quality they consume2) recipes are easy3) ingredients accessible4) it’s a “pretty” book with glossy pics and modern layoutCons1) the recipes tout you don’t need oils or fats and to cook with water or veggie broth. Definitely a way to deplete the flavors! You NEED fats in your body to digest all the plants and their nutrients. You also need fat for flavor. Many of the main course recipes don’t have any fat NOR protein.2) the flavors look to be redundant. Limited use of herbs and spices as well as techniques3) author relies on processed foods more than I would like for a healthier cookbook.-pasta- organic sourdough bread (where does one purchase that?)- tofu- jarred sauces- the breakfast recipes are full of sugar. You can have too much natural sugar especially if you struggle with sugar addition tendances. There are SO many other items like jicama, various vinegars, making your own dairy free milks, tons of herbs and spices that are absent. Perhaps the author wanted a basic palate cookbook, but it matters to being in varied items imo . Also, author offers no substitutions for beans and lentils; rice seems used little (so many organic rices available). You have to consume SO much volume bc of the absence of fat and protein if you work out at all. And if your some one who can’t consume nuts; this cookbook isn’t for you.Again, if you’re trying to learn to cook with veggies this is a good cookbook. If you’re looking for a lower inflammatory (yea veggies and fruits can cause inflammation for some) , realistic diet to maintain muscle mass and be satiating I’d go to Against All Grain.
