Review: I’m on the wrong side 50, a tad under 6 foot, and 310 lbs. Knee, shoulder, and foot issues prevent me from walking, lifting, or even working a heavy bag.So I bough the Mongoose Malus as a way to exercise.What others say is true – it’s a basic bike that you’ll have to replace parts on. The good news is that the replacements are easy and far cheaper than stepping up to a more expensive bikes.True, it is heavy, but if you’re just trying to make it around the neighborhood for a couple of laps a day for the purpose of exercise, then that’s actually a good thing.Parts you HAVE to replace:Seat – I went with the Sunlite Cloud-9 Bicycle Suspension Cruiser Saddle, Cruiser Gel, Tri-color BlackBrakes – I used shimano brakes and the difference is night and day – I believe its because the stock brakes are so bad. They do not stop you quickly at all. They don’t lock up the rotor. Shimano M375sShifter – Like many, I thought – no big deal, I’ll just avoid hitting it. I have larger than normal hands and the shifter takes up half the handlebar – so I upgraded to a shimano SL-M315-8R. Amazing upgrade.Pedals – there wasn’t anything horribly wrong with the stock ones, but they were polymer and while the bike is rated for 350, I just didn’t trust them to support my full weight if I get up on the pedals. Replaced with PD-EF205I replaced some other stuff, but I wouldn’t say it’s required. The seat and shifter are ease of use issues, the brakes and pedals were potential safety problems.The replacement of all parts are easy. If you can assemble furniture, you can replace bike parts. It’s 3 metric allens, a driver, a screw driver, and you will need some snips or something that can cut through wire – you have to cut through the wire on the stock brake and shifter assemblies to remove them – and that’s fine. A pair of side cutters will work well.If you’re fat and looking for a dependable cruiser you can’t break – that’s what I bought it for and so far this month I’ve got close to 95k on it, no issues.

Review: Okay so I am going to start with the Pros:1) The bicycle frame seems very sturdy, and the black with white accents on the steel frame is sharp – as are the black aluminum rims.2) The bike is MOSTLY assembled in the package.3) The wheels are fantastic, you can just ignore so many obstructions with this thing while on the trails.Now for the CONS:1) The Price. I don’t know who wants to wake up these bicycle companies about it but Covid 19 causing a supply deficit can’t be used as an excuse anymore. I am CERTAIN that the supply and demand has balanced out by now. Y’all are just greedy and don’t want to go back to the proper cost balance because you can make more this way and it is messed up. The cost of bicycles in general is ridiculous. This bike went for around $400 before Covid and I had to fork over more than $900 that is Corporate Greed at its finest.2) The weight, Just so you guys know this bike is made with a Steel frame – as they state – and it is HEAVY.3) The brakes – because of the weight of the bike in particular – take quite a bit of time to engage and bring you to a stop – I recommend using the rear and then the front brakes to ensure a safe stop. If these brakes were on a lighter weight bicycle I am sure they would perform much better.4) The seat. It is far too firm. Also the seat post assembly does not like to stay where it is, the seat will shift downward if too much pressure is applied to it and that is a problem for people that don’t like to smash their scrotum against their seat – which I am certain is most of us.5) The assembly instructions. They suck, there is no ifs ands or buts about this one… They hand you a “generic” assembly guide and expect you to figure it out. Just based on the simple fact of how grossly they overpriced this product you would expect them to at least provide proper building instructions. But alas that is not the case here.6) This is a specific one directed to Purolator – and whichever other channels that this bicycle went through to make it to my doorstep – not the seller so I will not blame the seller for this one. BUT there was a hole in the bottom, and side of the box they delivered this in. There were ALSO loose components in the bottom of the box that were necessary. It was a MIRACLE that nothing was lost due to this oversight on the packaging.In summation:Solid bike, Great frame and wheels, not without its flaws, RIDICULOUS price, Braking is challenging due to bike weight being so heavy, Seat and Seat Assembly just suck all around. Instructions are wrong and just generalized, and your delivery method needs to be more CAREFUL. My advice, just wait until prices go down, and save yourself the heartache and ridiculous pricing.

Review: Love the bike. Took it to a bike shop to get built and change out some parts if they were cheap looking. I got the gears changed and pedals changed. They were going to change the brakes, but felt no different with the other ones so kept the brakes that came with it. As someone else said it won’t stop on a dime.Great speed on the bike and a lot of fun.
