Customers say
Customers find the car barrier works well, keeps dogs safely in the back, and offers good value for money. The build quality receives mixed feedback – while some find it well-built, others report it keeps falling apart. Installation experiences vary, with some finding it easy to set up while others consider it a pain to assemble and install. The fit and stability also get mixed reviews, with some saying it fits their Chevy Silverado with room to spare while others find it too small for their Highlander, and some reporting it stays sturdily in place while others say it slips out of place. Customers disagree on whether the barrier rattles or not.

Title: Rav 4 for cross country cats
Review: Ok, first I bought the upgraded version because I needed the larger size. The first step in assembly was tedious to say the least! Probably wouldn’t have taken me about 30-45 minutes to remove the threaded rods (both in the one pipe, BTW) had I had the right tools but I just had pliers available. Now fitting the main part in actually was somewhat easy. Putting the extra “wings” on was a little more involved. I tried to follow the directions but it just wasn’t working – too much of a gap for the cats to get through. Sooo, I ran down to the neighborhood hardware store and bought a bag of small black zip ties and some little rubber bumpers. After playing with the pieces like a puzzle, I got it installed and zip tied. I tied it very tight near the wheel wells because the gap there was a great size for my guys to squeeze through so the wings are just a little curved to pull them closer to the door jamb. I plan to just drop the back seat to get the cats in and out – there is enough room to do that. All in all, I’m impressed with the product (and my zip tie job). I didn’t use the rubber bumpers and took it for a test drive, no rattles unless I hit a big pothole. I can live with that cross country. Now, does anyone know how to get my cats to like the car because it’s a 39 hour drive and they are howlers! Probably only for the first 100 miles or so, right? Fingers crossed! HAHA!

Title: 2015 Honda CR-V
Review: Ordered this for my new car so that my lab-collie mix wouldn’t destroy my light interior during car rides. This dog is a maniac and has licked every surface of the interior of my new car. Licking has to stop. Jumping from backseat to passenger seat to dashboard to lap has to stop. Cue this barrier.Shipping: All parts were included in the box, as well as some wonky but legible assembly directions. Fiancé complained about directions being terrible but when I glanced at them, they seemed good enough in combination with innate engineering sense, which I don’t possess but fiancé sometimes does.Assembly: Fiancé installed in vehicle. It took about 45 minutes. I watched from inside the house because it was hot out. I am supportive this way. He installed the grate slightly tilted for some reason. Possibly out of spite. I complained about it but alas, it stays tilted.Durability: Grate seems sturdy. Rods at base that attach to the floor of the trunk are questionably sharp and could be useful for a future lobotomy. Extensions on sides leave only about 2 inches of space for maniac dog to finagle through. Will update review if this happens. Will also alert Guinness Book of World Records.Road noise: Fiancé’s innate engineering sense was strong during install. He attached rubber grips from the main grate to each side grate. Apparently this helps with rattling. I awarded him points for cleverness and sass. Drove the vehicle today and the grate didn’t so much rattle as it bahh-ed like a sheep. Very muffled. As a responsible driver, I did check my rearview for sheep and somewhat to my dismay, there were none. Our relationship: To be edited later, but overall health and wellness of our coupledom should increase.Maniac dog: Continues to display maniacal behaviors. Will update if this changes.Overall, I rate this as 4 stars. Decent price, easy setup (for the person not installing) and fairly quiet.UPDATE 1 (4/17): Due to circumstances unrelated to this grate, fiancé and I have called off our wedding. Silver lining: I kept maniac dog.UPDATE 2 (12/17): After much contemplation, I decided to sell this grate on the local internet marketplace. Reasoning is due to the complicated-ness of removing the grate to transport large items, and the ensuing reinstall of the grate after said items are transported.A kind civilian answered my ad and we met in a gas station parking lot. I chose a public place in case her motives were ulterior. For several minutes, I fumbled with the grate attempting to demonstrate its usefulness and ease of install. The latter was obviously untrue. Civilian could tell. I finally inquired whether the civilian was married. She replied yes. I informed her that her husband would likely be able to figure out the grate. She immediately paid me my asking price of $15 and I left feeling triumphant. My vehicle interior was completely destroyed a week after the sale of the grate. So there’s that.UPDATE 3 (9/18): I spent my summer training maniac dog to drive the CR-V. His urge to be in the driver’s seat is satisfied. I have caught up on nearly every book on my reading list. This is a win-win for the foreseeable future.

Title: Wire Mesh Barrier— Better than most
Review: When our Boxer puppy gnawed on the dashboard ($$$) and steering wheel of our Mercedes 350 GLK I knew I had to do something and quickly.Amazon has a good selection of pet barriers. They fall into basically 5 categories: tubular floor to ceiling, tubular side to side mount, cloth mesh, mount on headrest, and wire mesh. I ruled out the tubular floor to ceiling type because the puppy could easily get through it, and the tubular side to side type because there was no convenient place to mount it. The mesh would be chewed through in a minute. The mount on headrest type would leave the back of the seats available to be chewed and that left only the wire mesh type which I ordered. It came promptly but was evidently dropped in shipment. The box was crushed on the corner, the plastic shipping ties were all broken, the mesh was bent in a couple of places and a weld or 2 were broken. Fortunately none of this was structural and was quickly straightened. I thought this would be less hassle than returning it for replacement. My application required placement behind the front seat because we have 3 dogs and need the entire back area plus access to the rear doors to load dogs. I had to re-engineer the mounting and purchased new 1/2 inch x 3 foot threaded rod so that the unit could stand on the floor and reach to the ceiling and still be stable. The rod that comes with it is non-standard size and so poorly machined that the included wing nuts turn only with difficulty. I also used HVAC ties to secure the unit to the front headrests (the mesh keeps teeth off the back of the seats). I purchased the extension mesh and it fits quite well between the seats. A little duct tape keeps everything from rattling. It is very stable and quiet.Overall, a good solution for dogs that like to chew! I recommend it, and it is probably better than most, but gave it only 3 stars because of the rough shipping treatment and the poor quality hardware that came with it.

Review: Amazing quality for the price! (Installed in a Jeep Cherokee 2014-now) Very satisfied. I use it as a safety separation between the passenger seats and the “trunk” storage. It fits perfectly. The back seats seem to be designed for this product. The grid itself is very sturdy, a lot of configurations are possible due to a very good design. Some people say that it rattles, I did not hear a single sound… except from seeing it in the mirror, it’s like if it was not there! Very impressed! Simply follow EVERY steps while installing it, read the very clear, short documentation provided, do not try to figure it out by yourself, it will work! There is two sets of left and right panels (different sizes), you only need one, very well made once again. I bought rubber covers for the screws (few cents per unit), it makes it absolutly perfect.
