Title: The missing piece
Review: Just wow! I’ve read around many audiophile forums and so many people say getting a tube preamp is essential to the tonal quality of vinyl. That said I am not one of those thousands of dollars in equipment. I have the cheaper audio technica table and a pair of edifier speakers. So it’s a very modest setup. Seeing this at its price point and reviews I decided let’s try it.Adding this tube preamp adds a sonic quality that’s hard to really convey in words. Using this instead of the built in preamp of the audio technica, one drives the speakers harder if I desire. But the audio quality seems more “alive”. Again hard to really describe in words. I just remember as a kid my mother blasting sabbath and zeppelin records and it sounded so much better than what I was getting with my old setup. This was the missing piece and here I am with a much smaller footprint getting the same if not better tonal quality. As for the unit itself seems pretty well built and the volume knob has a good feel to it. Connecting it takes seconds and it looks cool with the blue under lighting if the tubes.

Title: Hearing is definitely believing!
Review: I’ve been collecting records for almost twenty years and using varying degrees of audio set ups, with nothing that ever blew me away completely (other than the first time I replaced a stock Audio Technica cartridge with a Shure M97x), since I usually just purchased cheap equipment that allowed me to simply play with the distinct sound of vinyl. After recently acquiring a Fluance record player (RT82), a pair of beyerdynamic headphones (DT 770 Pro – 250 ohms) and a set of Klipsch bookshelf speakers, my next mission was to dip my toes into the realm of the vacuum tube sound. The headphones were the main reason I was looking for a headphone amp, since I was unsure that my Sony DH190 2.0 phono receiver would be able to drive them properly (it does), and so I then almost purchased a Schiit headphone amp; I kept browsing Amazon to see if anything else caught my eye (and was cheaper) before buying that.Ultimately, I decided to try this little guy first at half the price and hear for myself if it would be worth it to further travel down this vacuum tube glowy path. It has good looks, good reviews and an even more attractive price point, but I obviously wasn’t sure if it would be worth it just to hear a difference (if any). My expectations were at the ceiling for this thing, since I read so many people praising it and the excellent sound it processes… Man, you really don’t know what you were missing until those little tubes warm up, plug in your headphones and play your favorite song. That one piece of music you’ve heard a million times before and listen in it, for the first time ever, a wave of detail, preciseness and clarity. That moment was awesome, perfect and brought excitement back to my record collecting. It’s almost as if the tubes bring out that detail and fill in the blanks of whatever was missing in voices and instrumentation due to equipment. Is it a placebo effect? Maybe, but it felt so good that it made me spent a few hours listening to different records and it also brought me here to write this review. To say that it blew my mind is an understatement. Fair warning that this review is coming from a budget conscious audiophile that is always trying to find the best bang for my buck, so it’s obvious that there are probably thousands of better (and more expensive) audio listening configurations. I feel that if you’re in a similar situation, this is an absolute must (small) investment to your record playing experience. It immediately felt like it was the missing piece to my set up and I am hoping that the beautiful exterior quality build matches the inside and that it will allow me to enjoy it for some years at least. Every component in the preamp feels sturdy, high quality and that it was made to make it better and produce higher quality audio. I was also able to connect my Sony receiver to it and the sound coming out of the speakers sounds unbelievable as well. The only knock down I have for it is that the tubes are a bit hard to install and to remove, it always feels like they are a squeeze away from breaking, but that really has nothing to do with the amp and more generalized vacuum tube issues. In all, I probably would have been fine if I had never purchased this, but I am so glad I did, because now it feels like it’s an essential part of my record playing experience. I wonder how I went so many years without something like this. It seems that Douk is doing something special with audio equipment for the budget minded and I am glad that they are doing an awesome job at it.

Title: Really flexible preamp
Review: This is a really good and very flexible preamp. When I bought it I really didn’t think I would use the Aux or Headphone jacks. But, the headphone jack is especially nice. Connect good open back headphones and the vinyl music is so rich. Wonderful way to get straight to the music without the AV receiver and speakers, especially for late night listening without disturbing others. Also performs very well at full gain plugged into my receiver Aux connection.

Title: Attractive and Efficient
Review: Added to my Onkyo TX-NR555 receiver because I did not like the phono stage. This gave a much richer sound with increased gain. Big difference for my system.

Title: Quiet and Clean Phono pre-amp with tube sound qualities.
Review: This connected to a vintage, refurbed Technics SL-Q5 Linear Tracking Turntable and New OSD Audio Pre-1 High Definition Preamplifier. Since the TT is vintage, I wanted a vintage tube sound. Otherwise why buy vinyl, just get a CD. The little pre-amp sounds great and fits my needs perfectly. I connect it to the Aux. 1 input of the OSD and enjoy my records. It was easy to set up and plug into my system.Aesthetically it fits in. It does not introduce any noise or hiss that I can hear. When a record is cued up but not playing I do not hear any hiss or hum. Of course, you need to ground your pre-amps and turn table together.Overall, It sounds above it’s price class and I am very happy with it.

Title: Background hum
Review: 3 because its well made but did not work for me… Cant stop the background hum. I’m an Electrician so I know all about dirty power/bad grounding and I’m fine there. Shame I had high hopes.

Review: Excellent sounding preamp. Clear transparent & balanced sound with a bit of added warmth from the tubes. I’m using it with an old Yamaha turntable from the 80’s and it sounds fantastic. I mainly got it because I wanted to be able to control the turntable’s volume but as it turns out it is a big improvement sound-wise over the onboard phono preamp which I have now bypassed. Very sturdy & well finished as well. I could have done without the blue LED’s under the tubes, but that small quibble aside…..Highly recommended!

Review: I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my brother, who listens to a lot of vinyl records with headphones. He has good turntables, really good cartridges and a decent amplifier. Unsurprisingly, he prefers to use this with his headphones now.

Review: To be honest, my expectations were pretty low. I wasn’t expecting much for the price, but I believe it’s worth it. The sound is very clear and clean. I was amazed by this product. Now, I can enjoy my records in my office using my headphones without disturbing other people in my house. It’s totally recommended.
