Title: 6th Gen CPU – Windows 11 now unsupported on computer received
Review: Windows 11 updates for computer with Intel CPUs less than 8th Generation will probably end BEFORE Windows 10 support stops in October 2025. Microsoft started a series of patches which will eventually prevent Windows Updates for unsupported CPUs. Apparently there were already a few rare, minor issues with hacked installs of Windows 11 on unsupported CPUs.IMHO the reliability of an unsupported, hacked install of Windows 11 is little different than using Windows 10 after the end of security patches. Both can work…until they don’t. But its more honest to sell systems with Windows 10 rather than implying true supported Windows 11 and concealing the exact CPU info.I suppose its possible that not all computers sold and shipped under this posting are older than Intel Generation 8. However, the posting does not allow specifying the CPU and I received a 6th Gen CPU. Yes Windows 11 seemed to run at the moment. But the prospect that is likely changing in the near future makes this very similar in spirit to selling a brick with a Windows 11 install media taped to it as “product deliver has Windows 11 on it”.*** Product returns have a printable address label with “place postage here” and 7 day time limit. I have seen this return deterrent before. Returns are typical stated as “late”, “broken”, or “never arrived”. Proper timely, certified and insured delivery return is very expensive (6 years ago typically $60-$100). ***Positive side? Fair salvage value if you can find a user for all the salvageable parts and new accessories. Some salvage value is questionable – like whether the used RX 550 graphics card is worth $70 to somebody you know. On the other hand Linux (Ubuntu) hobbyists might get full value out of the machine. The problem is all about specifically marketing this machine as suitable for Windows 11.
