Title: Fabulous Game!
Review: This game is so fun! I love the combination of the Castles game with drawing your own blueprint each game, similar to Cartographers. If you enjoy either or both of those games, you will love this one.

Title: Complex, and fun!
Review: I love that every game is very different, and all the rules keep me engaged. The reference cards are very helpful. I started making the doors with sharpie because I couldn’t see yellow doors and it helps so much. Scoring can be complex after an already long game.

Title: roll n write goodness
Review: Fun game – didn’t take too long to figure out. If you like roll n’write style games, architecture, Betrayal, or just coloring and board games, give it a try. I chose to color only the outlines of the rooms, He colored in each one. There are plenty of papers so we can get a lot of plays before having to buy a refill pad. I also ordered some bonus cards from Bezier games to add in.

Title: More complex than I was expecting but lots of fun with the right group.
Review: I’ll admit, the concept of this game is what originally attracted me to Blueprints of Mad King Ludwig. I love the idea of everyone essentially drawing their own game board and using the cards they draw in creative ways to strategize and lay out everything effectively (I was thinking more along the lines of “Isle of Cats”). At it’s core, that’s exactly what this game is, but it’s way more complex and involved than I was anticipating. As I was wading through the rules I quickly realized this is not just a pick-up-and-play game that I can quickly teach to my friends and play multiple rounds. This one is way more involved and detailed and requires a bit of a learning curve to pick up. That’s not at all a bad thing and in no way a negative critique, I just wasn’t expecting something this complex.Overall the game is awesome if you have a group of friends that like to draw and enjoy the create your layout concept. There’s lots of strategy in where you draw rooms and how you plan and use the special cards. The components are awesome. You get these cool almost transparent sheets of grid paper that you can use to lay out the shapes of your room cards. Where you put them makes a big difference so you learn to be strategic and not just throw it on your drawing anywhere. You have different colored pencils for different types of rooms and an eraser and pencil sharpener. The cardboard pieces and cards are all high quality and durable with vibrant color printing.Overall, this is a fun game and a decent value though it is a bit on the pricey side ($45.99 at the time of this review). Although it’s probably not for everyone, I do have some friends that enjoy this type of game so as long as it’s with the right group that can handle more complicated/involved rules, I would recommend it.

Title: A Madder of Perspective
Review: Blueprints of Mad King Ludwig extends and re-envisions the Mad King Ludwig series of games. Castle of Mad King Ludwig, Palace of Mad King Ludwig, Between Two Cities of Mad King Ludwig are all games that formed the core of the previous experience of laying tiles and creating a castle even a mad king could reward.Blueprints takes that concept and translates it into a new style of popular gaming: Flip and Sketch. The idea with Flip and Sketch games are that a card is revealed and then coerces players to draw something on a sheet using whatever hints and guidelines are prescribed. For some games, it can be filling in squares with terrain (water, land, etc.) For other games, it could be adding resources or filling in boxes that have special abilities, etc. Blueprints extends that very, very far into the land of detail and complexity.Cons:—————* Most Flip and Writes distill the experience for casual or even non-gamers by making it a simple rhythmic game flow. Flip a Card. Draw Something. This is NOT blueprints. Blueprints may have hte same underlying idea, but it’s steeped in rules and guidelines, exceptions to rules and guidelines, and detailed mandates as to how to build the castle blueprint that will win the game.* While it’s not required, a healthy understanding of the previous games and the setting will definitely provide an edge in this game.* Flip and Sketch (and it’s similar Roll and Write) games are often defined by being fillers, games with a shorter length and a more approachable stance. This is neither. The game will take a sufficient time that you can consider it a full evening experience for many groups.* The included pencils are insufficient for the game for long. Colors are not vivid, the pencils simply won’t pass muster. If this becomes a mainstay in your collection, invest in better pens.Pros:————–* Despite the cons above, there’s a LOT to like about this game for avid board gamers. While it does have a simplified flow, the many details, excepetions, rules, etc. are not unfamiliar to board gamers, and they’ll appreciate that this is by no means a dumbed down experience.* The components other than the pencils are top, top notch. This is not priced as a filler or lite game, and the components in the box do not lack in making that price feel like you have a satisfying amount of content for what you pay for.Verdict:Blueprints of Mad King Ludwig appeals to avid gamers who love detailed instructions, lots of varying aspects to a game’s components, and the feel of constructing a custom masterpiece over time. While it would make many Flip and Write gamers a bit dizzy from all that’s going on, and how long the game takes, it’s likely worth investigating if you are deeply ensconced in board gaming and want a more complex, meaty experience than almost all other Flip and Write games offer.

Title: Great game, wish it was a smaller box.
Review: This is a pretty good game with just a few flaws. It’s a fun flip & write game that really captures the feel of the original. It’s got a great puzzly aspect to it (though some of the room shapes can get a bit odd) and is pretty easy to learn and teach. My biggest issues with it though are: 1) it gets difficult to see where one room ends and another begins, where doors are, etc. with the colored pencils unless you are very meticulous. You’ll probably want to outline rooms in a darker pencil or pen. And 2) for a X & write style game the box is HUGE. It’s as big as the original game. I wish it was a bit more portable. Overall though, it’s a great addition to a X & write collection, especially if you have room for the box.
