Title: Not overly complex, yet still a good deal of strategy involved!
Review: The artwork on the box usually creates my first impression of a board game. And, this box did indeed attract me to it … the same was true for some of the friends in my gaming group. Next, I felt that the component quality was very good as well. Everything was clean and felt like it matched the box artwork.Once the game was underway, each player’s turn was pretty quick and there was very little downtime in between turns. Occassionally, you had spend a little more time thinking about your next move, but there was no major “analysis paralysis” and the game moved along at a really good pace. There are a number of board game mechanisms going on at the same time:* worker placement*tile laying*goals*resource managementThe end result? A really fun little game that is light, yet strategic. I liked the fact that your turn decision was based on a set of tiles that continually rotated conveyor-belt style. And, new tiles were added to this as certain achievements were reached. The games seem to last about 45 minutes with 3 people. This will appeal to a broad range of gamers from casual to seasoned!

Title: Awesome economy style game for all gamer levels
Review: This is a very interesting game where you have limited resources to be able to use to perform actions. Sometimes, you’ll have to take the cheapest (no cost) action so that you can save what little shells (the resource) you have and so you can do a better action in subsequent turns. The “tech tree” is a cool aspect of this game and it’s certainly a good way to incentive yourself to go after specific routes where you can be efficient in doing the actions presented to you. The game flow is good. Not much AP (Analysis Paralysis) to deal with. I’ve played this game with varying player counts and it is a good game to play with 2 players and even better with 4. Definitely towards a more filler type economy style game that is good for any gamer level. Highly recommend.

Review: This is a great, quick-playing (45-60min) civilization game. We love the action selection queue and the feeling of growth and accomplishment you get from moving up the tech tree.

Title: Playing Tribes together makes us smile
Review: We love this game; it is fast, highly replayable, variable setup, hidden objective race for points that is lightly thematic and instantly appealed to us. It’s always very important to us that a game plays well at the 2 player count, so as we first discovered and starting playing Tribes I noticed my wife smiling as we played even the first few games as we picked up the very simple rules. This is an automatic and immediate plus for any game in my opinion, there are any numbers of fun games out there, but you can just tell when one is special from the start. I saw Tribes was going to be one of those special games for us and as we continue playing neither of us have been disappointed with this solid civilization builder.I asked my wife to help me with this review as her input seemed invaluable in regard to Tribes, her near instant approval of this one had me curious what she was so enamored by from the start. Here is what brought a smile to her face in what she is calling a super fun game.“I like that it’s a different setup each time, that I might have some land resource tiles that you don’t have.” When setting up Tribes you each pick 3 land tiles with the different available resources on them, with the variable setup players will immediately find themselves drawn towards different civilization building achievements that an opponent may not have access to. This also is appealing to me; along with random land tiles that we draw the game’s achievement track through the 3 ages has a random setup, with the second and third age being hidden until revealed.“Building my own personal player area is cool, moving my tribe members and placing land tiles when I explore in the best possible spots is fun.” I can’t agree with her more again on this one, this is a great little sideboard game you have complete control over. As your tribe explores, moves, or procreates you will be adding new land tiles to your own personal map, moving among those tiles, or increasing the population of your tribe to control and collect the resources needed to gain achievements. This is a very hands on part of the game that gives you a lot to do on your turns and keeps players engaged and thinking about what they might attempt next turn, there is not a lot of down time playing this at all. This is probably my own favorite about Tribes as well and the part I enjoy the most. As she puts it “The action events are easy some rounds, a tough choice other times, and sometimes downright frustrating and game changing.” This is pretty spot on and what is a lot of fun with Tribes, you start with 6 basic actions that you can take your choice of sequentially. If you don’t like the action in the first position you may pay a limited currency available to you to skip over unwanted actions until you either reach the one you wish to take or run out of that currency. Future players can then gain these seashells used as the currency by taking an action space that you or other previously skipped. As the game progresses and achievements are unlocked new action tiles become part of the sequence, they are 1 time events and often times have a negative action associated with them. Deciding how and when to spend your 5 seashells can be strategic, exhilarating, and sometimes frustrating. The action sequence is what shines the most for us with this game, we both agree it has been our favorite part when playing and think it really changes and decides the routes available to you when you want to play smart and strategically at the same time. Tribes just makes us smile, its fun and engaging time and time again.

Review: Game was delivered in a beaten-up box – as standard now by Amazon – and the game itself has mild abrasion to the lid. Normally would send back but the price has shot back up to normal prices again.
