Title: Fun and challenging co-op game
Review: This is a fun co-op game. A little challenging for just two players, so three or more would probably be best. Initial set up takes a minute but one you get going it is thought provoking fun

Title: Fun, cooperative family game
Review: Express Route is a fun game in which everyone works together trying to deliver packages. As in real life, you need to do this as quickly as possible to avoid the customers becoming irate. Too many irate customers and you lose the game. The good:The components are high quality. It doesn’t say deluxe on the box but the heavy duty cardboard used and wooden pieces make it feel like it is.The rules are easy to understand (but don’t confuse that with an easy game….it has good difficulty!).Lots of decisions to be made during the game; do I deliver more packages or do I trade them in to upgrade? Each person can select a role and each role has it’s own special power or special set up ability. The bad:Pick up and delivery can get tedious after numerous play throughs. I can see this being perfect for expansions to extend playability though. The board takes up a lot of real estate. (Not necessarily a negative but something to be aware of).Sometimes package values seem random. This game is fun. We played numerous times with two adults and two older teens and it never got boring. Yes, the concept seems too bland, but there is more to the game than just delivering packages. If you just want to deliver, you will have fun but you are also guaranteed to lose. As you play, you can trade in already delivered packages for upgrades such as upgrading your vehicles, seeing what is upcoming and many others. As you go along, there are other things aside from irate customers that can hamper you. You only have 24 turns to win and, after each turn and event card is turned over such as bad weather shutting down routes and other fun (not really!) things. We liked how easy the game was to pick up and start playing. As I said, don’t mistake that for the game being easy! The first 2 or 3 times we played, we lost. You really do need to work to upgrade things while you try to keep customers from getting too irate, it’s a great balancing act. Yes, after many playthroughs, I can see this overstaying its welcome at the table. Not because the game isn’t fun, but because pick up and delivery takes some of your decisions away since you are sort of forced to do what the luck of the draw decides for you. I do think that this game could definitely (and easily) be a perfect choice for expansions (similar to Ticket to Ride with different maps/countries/etc). Sometimes it also seemed very random how package values were assigned. If a package going from the East coast to the West coast is only worth 1 point, why is something going a much shorter distance worth 3 points? All in all, this is a very fun, and challenging, game for the whole family. It was easy to learn/teach and quick to set up. In my opinion, it’s definitely worth the $40 asking price, especially with the premium components included.

Title: Awesome idea for a board game that is a great value, but way too difficult to be enjoyed
Review: Express Route is a board game set in the 1950s about a brand-new automated package delivery company designed to keep up with the increased shipping demand with the popularity of catalog shopping. The large gameboard is a map showing cities across the United States. The gameboard is also used to keep track of the Demand, Active/Incoming Callers, Events, and Delivered Packages. Players begin by laying out their player boards (Control Panels) and placing Range and Load Tokens on their Vehicles. These tokens determine how much a Vehicle can move or how many Packages can be Loaded/Unloaded at a time. From there, players choose from a variety of Specialists, each with unique abilities and starting bonuses. The goal is to have eight Packages Delivered at one time before the Demand Tracker maxes out or the Event Cards run out. After set-up, players will take turns Moving across the map, Delivering Packages, and Upgrading the system. At the start of each turn, Orders are taken from the Active Callers depending on the current Demand Level. Then, the Demand Level is adjusted to reflect the Packages added to the map. Next, the top Event Card is revealed which may impact the game for that turn. A player may now perform their Actions by placing their Batteries (players start with three) into their Control Panel, choosing to Move their Vehicle(s), Load/Unload Packages, or Deliver Packages. At any point during this Action Phase, a player may use their Specialist Ability if applicable or spend Delivered Packages for Upgrades. At the end of the turn, the Batteries are removed from the Control Panel. Throughout the game, I enjoyed discussing with other players how to optimize my route to best deliver packages in a timely manner. The rule book also known as the New Employee Handbook provides an exciting intro for the game and explains how to the play the game with plenty of useful diagrams and gameplay examples. There are also convenient reference cards known as the Turn Order Checklist. The gameboard is a high-quality large six-fold board. The game’s components are also excellent quality with the Vehicles, Demand Pawn, and Batteries being made from wooden pieces. The rest of the components are made from thick cardboard pieces. The playerboards are great for tracking Actions with cutouts for the Batteries and current Upgrade Levels. The cards are top-notch with the Specialists being full-sized cards with a nice gloss finish and the Event Cards being mini-sized.I have a lot to praise the game about such as how the game offers a lot for the price. Besides the standard (Free Mode), there are multiple Scenarios that can be played that provide new challenges. Unfortunately, the game was way too difficult for my 2-player game. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the Demand Track filling up quite fast. Then, there’s the issue with some deliveries being spread far out. I tried playing this a second time after learning how to play and failing on my first playthrough. On my second playthrough, I still found my Demand Track filling up too quickly and struggling to meet the Demands. I went all out on increasing my Vehicles’ Range and Load with no luck. Sadly, I can’t recommend the game for now but I may come back to it with more players to hopefully figure out how to play better.

Title: Buckle Up You’re Delivering Packages
Review: Express Route can be played solo or cooperate with up to four players. When playing this alone my first time, and with people my second play through, it took well over an hour to complete both games, so set aside time as it is not a fast paced experience. The instruction booklet is very well written, and even has a QR code in it if watching a ‘how to’ video to play is preferred. In a nutshell, packages need to be delivered by a specialist (whom have special perks) using certain vehicles/transportation to get across the map while using player’s turns. As you deliver packages, more demand will rise for more packages to be delivered in a timely manner. Also, upgrading vehicles is a must in order to complete the board game successfully as different scenarios play out too.The actual package delivery system seems a little wonky for me. For example, packages that are of high importance (value 4, 5, and 6) and have a long distance to travel makes sense to me. High value packages go farther distances. However, a package with the same level of high value can also have a very short distance to travel, which doesn’t seem as rewarding. It is fun to play solo, or work as a group to achieve deliveries and work down the demand. It is more satisfying to play cooperatively as this is a good team based board game. There is a Turn Order Checklist that can assist players for playing correctly for the first time. The board is rather large, so make some extra room on the table.
