You’ll also find tips for harvesting ingredients, from mushrooms to nettles to edible flowers, along with preserving, fermenting, beginner foraging techniques, and mindfulness activities. Title: Gorgeous. Delicious. Omg
Review: This book is almost a tabletop masterpiece if not for the recipes and on top of it Rodriguez is a masterful storyteller. Makes me want to forage and make dinner outside every night. And the recipes? I’ve only tried one so far but I must say it’s the best meal I’ve ever made. Wow. Now gonna order all her other cookbooks!

Title: Very Unusual Ingredients
Review: Overall, this is a beautiful cookbook, so if you like looking at and reading cookbooks, then this might be perfect. But if you actually want to cook from them – well, it might be a different story.I live in the Pacific Northwest and am an avid gardener. But even for me, some of the ingredients in many of her recipes are just ridiculous. For example, “Burrata with Maple Blossom Honey and Chive Vinaigrette”. Recipe calls for maple blossoms. A short paragraph on harvesting maple blossoms, including the warning to “be 100% certain of your tree identification”! OK. Way too scary and way too much work for me.There’s a number of recipes calling for Stinging Nettles. Many (if not most) people don’t have access to these. If you do AND want to deal with them, more power to you. Me? Not so much.Other unusual ingredients include: chive blossoms, lilac flowers, wild mushrooms, pine needles, spruce tips, and something called “the forest floor’ upon which you are supposed to cook lamb. I live next to a forest. No thanks. If you are an adventuresome cook and are looking to enhance your cooking repertoire, then this cookbook might be perfect. But if you DON’T have access to these ingredient or just want to get dinner on the table, then I’d give this cookbook a hard pass.As for me, I’ll keep it. I do have access to many of the ingredients at my local Farmer’s Market and are looking for ways to prepare them. And I am retired and have a willing husband, so I have time to prepare these recipes. But I don’t think I’ll do the forest floor recipe.Final notes: the book is beautiful. Full color pictures for almost every recipe. Substitutions sometimes given. Chapters separated by season. Full index.

Title: As usual, a wonderful book! But truly miss the menus of the past two.
Review: Title says it all. As always, Ashley has a unique gift for flavors and food styling. I absolutely adore any chef who arranges their book by season, it makes my heart leap for joy. And Ashley does this better than most! I found myself missing her menu suggestions and the cocktails from the past two books, however. I would love to pair some of her seasonal recipes together but my creativity doesn’t touch hers with a ten foot pole. I would love if she could guide the reader a bit more, purely so I can make MORE of her recipes!

Title: A feast for the eyes and the soul
Review: I love this book. The photos are gorgeous. The food looks amazing. And I’m inspired to get outside. I really like how it’s organized by seasons and encourages local and foraged ingredients. Each dish is a celebration of that time of year. Rooted Kitchen has inspired me to explore the outdoors and bring a touch of nature into my own kitchen.

Title: This is a stunning book filled with recipes that are unique and inspirational, gorgeous photography.
Review: Ashley’s books are always the trifecta, 1) great recipes that WORK 2) gorgeous photography to support them and inspire to make them. 3) writing that is from the heart, beautiful and teaches you something. This is a great book for any cook, but if you also love nature, the outdoors, foraging and the idea that food maybe all around you for the having, this is a MUST.
