A quick rundown of this product’s key features:

In the real world of the classroom, there is general agreement that students should have an opportunity to create and further their own learning. For such a student-centered experience to exist, students need the foundational knowledge and skills most effectively and efficiently provided by a skilled teacher.

Teach FAST describes how teachers can plan and deliver the most effective and efficient lessons possible using a single lesson framework. It is based on a synthesis of cognitive science and nearly 20 years of experience training and coaching teachers in classrooms on how best to provide instruction in foundational knowledge and skills that allow students to reach their creative potential.

Title: Lesson Planning with Cognitive Science Principles in Mind
Review: This book does a great job explaining how to construct an effective lesson plan with cognitive science principles in mind. I tend to think I’m pretty fluent when it comes to describing the science of learning. However, implementing those principles in the classroom can sometimes be daunting. Especially considering how limited our times are as teachers. However, Dr. Tavernetti takes all the guesswork away with this book. It provides a practical, clear guide on how to plan a lesson successfully and includes many examples. As a side note, I used this book to help me with Component 3 of National Boards. Definitely a must read for all teachers!

Title: A book that should be in every educators’ hands!
Review: The way that Gene organizes and shares his framework is a “back to the basics” approach to teaching that more teacher prep programs should be embracing. This is a read grounded in logic, organically encouraging self-reflection on current instructional practices and including actionable next steps.

Title: The best way to facilitate learning new ideas!
Review: Gene Tavernetti’s “FAST” teaching method is the best way to facilitate learning new ideas. As a teacher, one of the biggest challenges I faced was having enough time in my classroom to go over a concept or idea. I’d always run over time and never have enough of it to consistently provide closure to a lesson. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Gene in my role as an instructional coach, and I’ve witnessed first-hand the transformation of teachers’ lessons and the time that they save when they implement his FAST method. If they’re not already using this in teacher credentialing programs, they definitely need to start.

If you’re looking for a way to really share with teachers what a “High Quality First Instruction” lesson looks like in actual practice, this is for you. The research is rooted in brain science and tried and true instructional methodologies that can be overlayed or incorporated into other instructional practices. A must read for all teachers!

Title: This is a practical, useable study for developing and delivering a successful lesson.
Review: Dr. Tavernetti provides us with a practical, clear, and uncluttered look at what teaching really consists of; a clear learning objective, an understanding of learning theory and brain research, and real classroom evidence of instruction and learning. Teachers can use this text as a guide to evaluating their current lessons, fine-tuning those lessons, and critical evaluation of the product – student achievement. As a past department chair, principal, and superintendent, I would recommend this text for all professional libraries.
