Title: GREAT history of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania from a transportation perspective
Review: I’m enjoying this book so much I had to put it on here and recommend it to anyone with and interest in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania history.I don’t know why, maybe because it was put together by the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) 100th Anniversary Publication Committee, but I was expecting a very dry tome with lots of math and calculations but it has some of the best local history I’ve read in a long time. The first section alone (on Pennsylvania Borders) pulled together a lot of facts I’d heard about, in bits and pieces, here and there, in a very interesting way that pulled them all together.I wish there were a few more maps showing the location of some of the early canals and railroads, etc., but that’s a minor quibble.
