A quick rundown of this product’s key features:

Look. Swirl. Sniff. Taste. Savor. Whether you’re tasting a refreshing white or an aromatic red, these well-known steps are the only proper way to take the first sip of wine.

Oenophiles have never been rare, but over the past decade, wine culture has exploded. Amateur wine enthusiasts join dedicated collectors at tastings and on vineyard vacations, and young professionals pack trendy wine bars. Even Hollywood has gotten in on the action—movies like Sideways, Bottle Shock, and French Kiss relate the deep love we have for a glass of pinot noir, a bottle of chardonnay, and the grapes that produce them. But how did wine surpass all other beverages to achieve global domination? In Wine, Marc Millon travels back to the origins of modern man to find the answer, discovering that this heady drink is intertwined with the roots of civilization itself.

Wine takes us from Transcaucasia some eight thousand years ago across the Mediterranean Sea, following wine as it spread along with classical civilization throughout Europe, and showing how, thanks to the myths of Dionysus and Bacchus, many of the major wine-producing regions were established in Western Europe. Millon then details how the Spanish conquistadors first brought European grapes to the New World to develop wines for the Catholic mass, and he depicts how wine production traveled to the distant lands of Australia and New Zealand. Today, it is even part of the burgeoning economies of India and China. Millon also explores the types of wine developed in each region, describing the many varieties of grapes and the process of fermentation and storage.

Crisp and concise, with a hint of cherry and a soupcon of citrus, Wine provides the perfect introduction for wine novices seeking to impress at their first tasting while offering an engaging chronicle for experts looking to learn more about this most mysterious and magical of beverages.

Title: Rich and Soft
Review: Very good book. Marc writes in the rich and soft way, covering the main happenings in the wine world, but without many details. Straight to the point. Easy to read.Almir Meireles

Title: Not A History, I deserve a refund
Review: Buy any other book about wine. This is a history that has NO DATES and lacks even the most minimal level of organization. This is shown by how the book skips around throughout history instead of going in proper order. It also skips from place to place. Also, your personal opinions about wine are not history. Whoever edited this piece of trash should be fired. It could have been a good book with some simple organization and some dates.

Title: …a very valuable book for someone who wants to extend their wine knowledge
Review: Starts well, but then seems to get bogged down in detail. I suppose it is necessary to list all those Italian grape varieties, but it does get boring. Nevertheless it is a very valuable book for someone who wants to extend their wine knowledge.

Review: It’s certainly an enjoyable book on the history of wine, certainly very well researched especially for a book on wine. Many wine writers feel free to take a bit more poetic license with the content of their books than they should in using history and information a they’ve been told and not as research has found. It’s book is not one of those. The information is all very well researched and up to date with findings that have been made in the last few years regarding the origins of wine. It is a relatively short read at not much over 100 and something pages but it is thoroughly informing. Do not however expect some extravagant flower test of tales as you often find. It is so short because it is concise and to the point, it makes its point, tells the story and moves on. It certainly has good flow, and I’ll give the author credit for being very interesting in regard to a topic that can easily be very dry.One thing I will point out is that the author seems to have a certain fascination with amphorae, and fair enough as they were hugely important to wine before the common usage of bottles. It just became almost amusing of how many pictures either included or were of amphorae early on in the book especially ( they weren’t out of context just surprisingly numerous given I expected one maybe two). That’s nothing against the book though just something I found amusing. The pictures were nice however coming from some great museum specimens.Overall I would say the book is worth reading, it’s nice and short which is a refreshing change from the usual wine book. It provides much of the major history of wine. It’s accurate. It’s very well written. It was exactly what I was hoping to get, and I would more than suggest it even if only to see how intertwined wine has been with human civilization.
