Title: Extraordinary sci-fi
Review: It’s a really good story with very human characters which are well drawn and the plot, fast moving and realistic. It’s a long book and you will be wishing the sequel was here. Good job, D. Ward Cornell.

Title: Great Entertainment!
Review: A well crafted storyline, with plenty of interesting characters and a host of supporting cast members make this an entertaining and enjoyable book. While the science relies heavily on “deus ex machina” style developments, their introduction is not heavy handed and the positive spin provided raised this reader’s satisfaction level. I read to be entertained and this fit the bill nicely.

Title: Fun reading.
Review: It’s the old standard of an alien race giving us technology so we can beat up some bad guys. The story is engaging as our hero overcomes bureaucratic delays, technical problems, and a skirmish with a scout of the bad guys. We end up with some experimental weapons that we test out in a conflict with the bad guys. End result is good, and ends up with an alliance being created with an alien race against the bad guys. Book stops rather abruptly, but satisfactorily with the belief that a successful campaign will be concluded against the bad guys. The author clearly has some issues with the withdrawal from Afghanistan, and civilian control of the military. He makes his feelings known. He also has some feelings about sexual relations, and describes some interpersonal relationships that are both sour and sweet.Grammatically, the author appears to not know that there is such a word as “whom”. Overall, I found the book to be entertaining.

Title: Great premise really enjoyed this read!
Review: I love Sci-Fi that is based in reality with characters you can really believe in. I could see this happening as a real first contact. I also applaud the author for his treatment of women in science and the military, its great to see strong smart women portrayed realistically. The action and storyline left me hopeful for a sequel which I see is coming as I searched for more works from this author. I definitely recommend this book, you will not be disappointed.

Title: Interesting Universe
Review: Author has created and developed an interesting universe frame. This introductory book gives a broad outline which is readable and enjoyable. Characters are well written and believable. The plot line is very compressed, but gives a story which should allow for rapid development in future books.

Title: An OK light read
Review: I bought this book based on the large number of very favorable reviews, but it turned out not to be my cup o’ tea. The author’s writing style is lean and unembellished, which makes for easy reading, but the prosaic style also feels flat after the first few chapters. The setup required that I suspend disbelief, not about futuristic technology (that’s part of sci fi), but about human behavior. A highly trained veteran encounters an alien, is granted access to incredible technology, and keeps it secret because … the alien asks him to. The same veteran comes up with strategies and tactics for space battles that are novel not only to the entire defense establishment but also to the aliens who have been in space for millennia. The one man who has access to this fantastic alien technology is stiffed by senior military brass and allowed to roam free by world intelligence agencies. On the one hand, the Indiana Jones style story is fun, but since the writing style seems to be more serious, I wasn’t sure whether to go with it or roll my eyes. The novel is full of detail (on busbars, elements, weapons, etc.), but it sometimes feels like these expository details were researched on Wikipedia and don’t add the intended richness and texture to the story. In other cases, the details dominate the narrative (e.g., the frequent, long, and discursive sub-chapters on the fed gov contracting process). At around the 35% point in the novel, I found myself skimming chunks of chapters.Bottom line: A fun, light read. Better constructed and better written than the self-published sci fi that fills Amazon’s Kindle sci fi shelves. but if your tastes run more towards Asimov, Haldeman, Tchaikovsky, etc., this may not be the series for you. If you’re interested in the “good alien gives Earth people technology to fight off bad aliens” plot, you might take a look at David Weber’s “Dahak” series (more military sci fi), or perhaps Dennis Taylor’s (the Bobiverse author) “Singularity Trap”.

Title: well that was fun,
Review: Finally, we are not alone in the universe. The bad news is that the “Spider From Mars” are worse than we thought. They are more advanced, and their telepathy makes them more effective in battle. Fortunately, a species of humanoids has come to our aid. Now if we can get through the politics, we might have a chance of surviving the attack. So it is a political and military thriller with space aliens. What’s not to like.

Review: Male focussed story on how not to be remotely socially aware … but there are weapons!! So many inconsistencies and illogical people … it was just too shallow to read.
