Customers find this board game engaging and appreciate its magnificent themes and artwork, with solid build quality that withstands the test of time. The game offers good replay value and provides a challenge each time, though customers note it takes time to learn and can be very long to play. While some find it not super complicated, others consider it extremely challenging, and the extensive rule book makes it difficult to understand every rule.

Title: say it once say it twice take a chance and roll the dice
Review: I am continously impressed with this game. I must state that I am a long time HP Lovecraft fan and as such give this game extra points because I can associate the theme with my favorite stories. This is one of my favorite games. I will give a detailed review. The Good -The artwork is excellent. Even if you do not know anything about HP Lovecrafts stories, the art work still looks pretty cool. The Game is 1 to 8 players. The part I think is cool is that you can play this game by yourself. This works out if you cant find anyone to play complex board games with or if you want to give the game some practice runs before trying to play with a group. I suggest giving the game a couple runs through by yourself to get rules down. The game is complex and your friends will be more likley yo enjoy the game if you can quickly explain how to play instead of poking through the rule book trying to figure out what it going onThe game constantly changes. The game has many components and at first glance this can put people off because it makes it appear more complex than it is. The game does have tons of cards of all sizes with diffirent colors which need to be seperated while you keep track of a sheer with moving stats and a pile of resources. A player will not use all the componets at once though. The large bulk of components such as cards are only used in certain situations and thus expand the games ablity to be more diverse. I am most impressed with this games ablity to constanly shift. The designers have come up with ways to make the game enviorment, situation, monster placement, stats, and movement and objectives and more subject to change based on random card interactions and players choices. The game grows. Expansions have come out and likely will keep coming out for this game. You do not need the expansions to enjoy Arkham Horror, but each expansion adds new elements to the game. Some can add new characters or bosses to use while other can add an interesting twist on game mechanics. The game can be dumb downed. Not to call anyone dumb, but complex rules can be a buzz kill to those just starting. Not every rule needs to be strictly followed and it does not hurt to drop extra rule to lesson the difficulty or complexity. Imagine it like a videogame where you change the difficulty. Ignore monster ablities or allow trading when not in the same location. The story telling. A plot unravels and you can choose to pay attention and get into it or just play it as board game. You have choose a character who has a story and this character is exposed to random circumstances which tell a story. My adivce is to enjoy the story as it unfolds. The Bad -The game take up allot of room to play. This is not too painful a negative point and overall I think it is worth it. The game may be more complex if it was smaller. But I usually end up playing it on the floor because my kitchen table is only a little round table and cannot cotain the board and all the cards needed to lay this out.The complexity. This is not a game most people would be able to take out of the box, figure out after brushing through the rules and understand after one play through. For those with complex gaming experince the basics might be easier to figure out, but not simple. This being said, DO NOT LET THIS SCARE YOU AWAY! The rules may take some time to figure out, but they are needed to keep the game the constantly shifting living atmosphere that it is. This is why I suggest a few play throughs by yourself before teaching others (or learn with a friend and figure it out together) Even if you are checking the rule book every round for the first couple of games you will still be having a blast. I have played through whole games with friend and after the game is over we noticed we had a rule backwards or ignored completly and laughed about it. (maybe next time) The most important rule in these games is to have fun. If rules get to complex than drop or dumb them down. The game length. This game can take a long while to play. If you play it alone expect around 3 hours, if you have 3 or 4 people expect 3 to 6 hours (depending on attention span, boss, and random chance)I got not idea how long a 8 person game would take. If you dont mind playing games for long hours than awesome. I do not see this as that big of a con because the type of game it is should take more than a half hour to play. The game has depth and content. Most great board games take time to play, even monopoly. Conclusion -I am likely forgetting something awesome to tell you all, but the bottom line is that if your a die hard Lovecraft junkie than this is a must have. If you are not a Lovecraft junkie, but like horror and games, this is for you as well. If you are a vetran gamer who needs a new game to conquer, you wont be let down. If you are not a vetran gamer but are looking for something net, you will also not be let down. If your a collecter and you like to have a bunch of cool looking neat stuff around, you will have fun with this. The only reason I see for not liking this game is a dislike of the genre (horror or games) or a dislike for taking the time to learn something new. I suggest you pick this up.

Title: 4.8/5.0 BEST BOARD GAME EVER!!
Review: Arkham Horror is a 1-8 player board game based on the fiction of HP Lovecraft. Having read some of his work, I can say that this game captures his themes pretty well. Some of the style although, does not completely match what I would picture his descriptions to be like. So some of the game’s work is only loosely based on the work of HP Lovecraft. This game always looked very interesting to me. I was initially captured by the setting and plot. It’s the roaring 20’s and gates are spitting out monsters from different dimensions. You and a handful of other investigators explore a town with strange citizens, creepy locales and dangerous creatures trying to gather up enough clues and items to fight the monsters and close the gates. It’s an impressive take on a board game and at first I thought that it would not live up to its description. I can say now, after playing it several times, that it delivers an unforgettable experience every time you play and it delivers it in spades. When my brother and I played our first game of AH I was pretty familiar with the rules and phases of the game. It flowed pretty well and we had a good time. There were however a few technicalities that ended up delaying the game. They delayed the game because I had to pull out the rule book, skim through its 20+ pages and find the answers I was looking for. I wish the rule book was organized better. There will be rules for one part of the game and then extra rules (which are usually extremely important) 5 pages after a different part of the game is explained. It doesn’t seem coherent to me but it works out as long as you know where to look. There are also some rules that were revised since the Dunwich Horror expansion was released. I wish these rules were included in the original game. You can, however, look up the PDF containing the updated rules, if you don’t want to buy the Dunwich Horror expansion. So, it’s not a problem really. The game itself is fantastic to play. When each player clearly understands each phase and the roles of their investigator(s), the game runs very smoothly. The only time it would become dull is when someone is not into the game, doesn’t understand it or doesn’t have the time to play it (2-4 hrs).I tried to introduce this game to two of my friends(1 male 1 female). One only played a few rounds and the other quit halfway through. That’s another downside to the game. If people don’t really understand how the game goes, it takes longer and they WILL get bored. However, when things were flowing and we were getting through each phase quickly, they remarked that they were having a lot of fun.I’ve played AH both by myself and with others. When by myself, I usually use four investigators. Believe it or not, even a single player game can be a ton of fun. One night I was up past 4 am still trying to close the gates. I loved every minute of it! So, even if you don’t have anyone else to play with, it’s still a really fun and challenging experience solo!I love Arkham Horror. It is the best game I have ever played and I am collecting the expansions slowly but surely. Amazon sells them cheaper than most places so I would definitely look into those if you love AH. They add a LOT of new content and it just makes the game THAT much sweeter! Arkham Horror is a great game that everyone should keep in their home.PROS:Lots of contentHours of funVariety everywhere you goPerfect artwork and great themesFun solo as well as multiplayerExpansions!CONS:Not an easy game to learnLong set up and take down timeHard for first time playersRule book for base AH game needs to be updated and reorganizedSUGGESTIONS:There are a lot of parts that come with the base AH game. What I found useful was a craft storage box (for beads or whatever) from Walmart or Hobby Lobby. $5 and they store a lot. It also keeps all the little pieces organized. You do NOT want to be losing any of the pieces.Watch a few tutorial videos on Youtube. Tragic the Blathering has quite a few good tutorial videos on the base game and expansions. He’s pretty good at explaining things and he’s fun to watch. Watching it is a lot easier than just reading the rules all the time. At least it was for me. It will also give you a good idea of what the game looks like while in play.Get a bigger table…Read the rules and then read them three more times.Have fun and prepare to be devoured!

Review: Regole articolate, ma non difficili, materiali buoni, sembra di stare in un libro di lovecraft. E come nei suoi racconti si fa quasi sempre una brutta fine.

Review: As a fan of horror, fantasy, sci-fi and gaming and having more than a passing interest in the works of HP Lovecraft (I used to play ‘The Call of Cthulhu’ RPG with friends as a teenager), I was intrigued to see this board game pop up on an advert whilst browsing and even more intrigued when I saw that it catered for 1-8 players (so it could be played solo).Having just acquired a gift voucher for Amazon, I decided to spend it on a copy of the game and I am so glad that I did because I can honestly say that this is an excellent game. Since I set up my first game I have not packed it away; I have so far played 7 solo games and I have won 3 of these (and I expect this ratio to rise as I become more and more familiar with the strategies).Of course, if you are going to play solo you will need a degree of honesty and willpower to stick to the rules but as this is a co-operative game, I suppose the same could be said if you play with others (the aim is to beat the game itself – not the other players). I haven’t yet been able to play with friends or family but I am greatly looking forward to the opportunity to do so as I am sure that this can only enhance the experience. This game is obviously very well play-tested and even as a solo player you never really feel that victory is not achievable but it is always challenging (unless you make some really lucky draws as I did in one of my winning games). Some games will be set up to be more challenging than others based on the final boss (or ‘Ancient One’) that you draw as the ultimate nemesis (some bosses make for an easier challenge than others). But you can even set your own ‘difficulty’ level if you wish by choosing the final boss and the investigator (or investigators) that you will use (by default these would be chosen randomly). There are already many expansions available for this game and from what I have read, these tend to raise the difficulty level as well as enhancing and prolonging the experience but I have already decided to start collecting them (unfortunately it seems that most of them are out of stock and may even be out of print at the time of this review).Of course, there will be downsides to any game and this one is no exception. The most obvious one is that the game does require a very large playing area, even with only one player and no expansions; with more players and expansions you would need even more space. If you are considering buying this, make sure you have a lot of room available to play! This does mean that the game also takes quite some time to set up; I have minimised this by not packing the game away since I set it up and I suspect that if this is a possibility for them then most players would do the same. Finally – there are a lot of rules to absorb. The first one or two play throughs can be quite slow as you work your way slowly along but once you have the hang of them, the game flows very well indeed and even after only 7 games I find myself barely checking out the rulebook any longer apart from the occasional check of the reference sheet on the back page. Also – there seems to be a large online fan base, so it’s easy to get help and rules clarifications if needed. So in summary:Pros: Absorbing, well-presented, well-balanced, well-play tested, loads of fun and ideal for solo gamingCons: Lots of playing space required, long set up time, lots of rules to absorb, expansions hard to come by
