A quick rundown of this product’s key features:
Wine has a deeper history than any mere beverage. Present at the earliest recorded points of human history, wine has been present at the heights of sophistication and the depths of debauchery, an integral part of religious ritual and a free-flowing social lubricant.
This new edition explores the tourism and terroir-driven global industry of today while reaching as far back as Ancient Greece and Rome. On the way it stops at significant points in history including the birth of Charlemagne, Venice in the 17th century, trade in the Middle Ages and more. Celebratory and thorough, 9000 Years of Wine never lets the scale of history – wars, fraud, blight, colonization, Prohibition – get in the way of a good story or notable bottle.

Review: It doesn’t go too much into the B.C era, but it has a lot of good stories and anecdotes from the A.D. era. I really like this book. Worth every penny and more.

Title: A toast, to the best wine history book I’ve ever read
Review: I was in my late 30s before I discovered wine – in part because so much of the wine available to me before that age was pretty bad and put me off the stuff. But I’ve been making up for that, since (one of the benefits of old age!).About to board a plane on the way home from tasting wines near Okanagan Lake in British Columbia last fall, I picked up this book to read on the flight. For one reason or another, I didn’t get to it until this month. It turned out to be a terrific book – so much so that I wanted to tell some wine friends but worried it might be available only in Canada. No worries, though: it’s since been published in the States.Sure enough, 9000 Years of Wine starts at the beginning. I’m not a big history fan but author Phillips tells engaging tales of how people around the world (well, almost) have been civilizing grapes in one way or another over many centuries. It’s an evolution still underway today, and that’s part of the joy of wine – every vintage and every vineyard is different, and winemakers can and do make distinct contributions.Along the way, Phillips debunks any number of stories that were based on marketing appeal rather than veracity. He writes with humor, clarity and authority – a perfect combination for such an ambitious project about such a fascinating subject.

Title: Good Wine Book
Review: A lively and well-reserached account. Would have benefited from a good editing job to remove redundancies and improve organization; for example, the discussion of Roman and Greek wines goes back and forth, confusingly. More maps and illustrations would also enhance this text.
