Title: Major shortcomings
Review: Just OK for a universal half cage. Has a few significant shortcomings.1. The 1/4″ screw that’s included with the mounting plate is too long. This means it is impossible (with the hardware provided) to securely tighten the plate to your DSLR. The only way to tighten the plate to the camera is to purchase a screw that is long enough (but not too long) to work with this plate or to add a washer (of the correct thickness) between the screw and the plate. This is very poor quality control.2. The quick release plate is compatible/interchangable only with specific Manfrotto tripod heads. For a DLSR cage, using Arca Swiss style plates would have been far more practical and universal. Frankly not have a quick release plate built into the cage would have also been better. I’d rather be able to mount an Arca quick release base to a standard cheese plate cage base than have to mount and Arca quick release plate to the included Manfrotto style quick release plate and base.3. This is not really important to me, but it may matter to some- the hot shoe slot on the top cheese plate does not line up with the hot shoe on a D780. However it does line up with the hot shoe on a D750. I’d much rather have a standard cheese plate on top than the included hot shoe slotted cheese plate. A standard cheese plate would provide far more, far more universal and far better mounting options.

Title: Versatile for many cameras
Review: This cage is versatile to work with many different cameras. That’s good when you are using different cameras and don’t want to buy dedicated cages for them, or when you can’t find one that has the features you want. It’s not perfect since it doesn’t attach the camera at multiple points like a dedicated cage, but it works well enough.
