Title: Young kids love this game
Review: I played this at my nephew’s house and he was so excited about it I bought it for my house and my godson came over and also loved it. It takes a minute to figure it out but it is simple enough for kids that are 5-7 to play and they love it. It is also fun to play with them as adults. Some kids games are torture, this one is fun. It also seems educational as it helps them practice counting and pattern recognition and critical thinking. It goes fairly quickly, it is a small box that you could take with you. It was very reasonably priced for the enjoyment and entertainment gotten out of it. It came quickly and wasn’t missing any pieces.I would highly recommend it. The gameplay involves them collecting cards of either the same number, color or numbers in a row to make a play. You get the number of dice to roll as you have cards to play and have to roll a number higher than the value of the card you are trying to capture which has a creature like dragons and trolls on them. It uses special dice that only go up to 4, so don’t lose them, I’m not sure those are available for sale by themselves.I think this would be a good game if your kids want to play card games but aren’t old enough to understand all the rules that go into more advanced card games like Dominion or Pokemon. When they get older get dominion, it’s much more complicated but endless fun even for adults.

Title: Spot on for 10 year old!
Review: Read lots of reviews before buying this and agree with the positive reviews. This is perfect for 9-10 year olds. We watched a Youtube video to see how to set it up because I just learn better that way than reading the instructions but I think the instructions are sufficient for most adults. I was a little confused from reading only the instructions which deck I was supposed to be removing 12 cards from to begin with but I got it when I watched the Youtube video. (There are lots out there from which to pick btw.)My 10 year old could not figure out how to play it by reading the instructions herself so kids probably will need an adult to explain it and play it a few times before leaving them to play with other kids their age.Well thought-out game. After playing it twice, I started pointing out to my daughter about probability and risks/chance and she started catching onto this concept little by little so I do think this game is accurate in stating that it teaches probability. We have never played the previous game that others referred to in other reviews so I can’t attest to the game that was prior to this one for younger players.Yes, this game is totally fun with just 2 people! Sometimes games say 2-4 players and then just aren’t as fun with 2, but this one is just as fun with 2 as it would be with 3-4 players. Younger siblings (ages 6-7) could play along with assistance from an adult also, and I think, still have fun with it.My only suggestion for improvement is tweaking the written instructions for setting up the game (which deck was which) but again, this may have just been me not learning well from reading, to be fair. One more thing- the length of time it takes to complete the game is also spot on for this age group. We played 2 games and I would say it was between 40-50 mins for each one- and that’s partly because we are beginners and had to refer back to the instructions several times to check that we were following them correctly.Glad I bought this! I usually buy second hand games from Goodwill or yard sales so this was a little on the expensive side for me but I think it’s worth the money!

Title: Fun game with great illustrations
Review: The directions seemed complex at first, but we found if you just follow the set up directions and start playing it’s easier than first thought. Fun game with basic math , chance and skill. We like it!

Title: Not bad, but somewhat repetitive and one-dimensional
Review: For this review to make sense, I need first to explain how it’s played. The basic principle of the game is that you have a deck of cards that you need to assemble into a viable group. Based on the number of eligible adventurer cards, you roll a certain number of dice (3 eligible adventurers=roll 3 dice at once). The numbers of your rolls need to add up to a certain number to capture/defeat monsters. There’s slightly more to the game, but this is the basic idea.First the good: the artwork on the cards is great. It captures the D&D feel without making anything scary. Also, children are obliged to add numbers on dice, so that’s good too in that it makes the addition part of a game. The game is engaging at first, but less so as time draws on.The bad: you can roll up to six dice at a time (if you have 6 eligible adventurers). This gets a bit cumbersome. I don’t have the time or inclination to work out the probabilities to determine if this would work, but perhaps the game designers could have incorporated some traditional D&D dice. One could still do sums depending on what dice were chosen. Rolling more than 3 dice at a time is kind of a pain when kids get energetic with the rolling and the dice kind of go everywhere.Next, the game is pretty one dimensional, and after a couple of hours, the kids I watched playing this were bored, and I am getting reports that they don’t really feel like it’s a game that they want to play over and over. It’s too bad, because the art is really nice. The adventurers cards, for instance, are of different types (a wizard, archer etc.) – yet there’s nothing distinguishing about them. It would have been cool to incorporate special traits for character classes, and doing so without making the game so complicated. In my view, this would make the game far more interesting. Also, there’s no “story” to the game. The real attraction of the D&D type game is that it triggers the imagination. I’m sure one could tweak the game by inventing a story around it, but something that is structured into the game that sets up a narrative would have been nice.

Review: Our children loved this game and found the rules easy to understand. As the kids are still young (8 and 2 x 6 ) we played an open hand version of the game. This did not detract from the excitement. As they get older we will add a bit more strategy into the game. The cards themselves are beautifully drawn and of good quality. The dice are excellent. They favourite part for my kids was defeating the monsters. They always wanted to fight the strongest ones first regardless of how hard the roll had to be.Overall a very good game that I can see us taking camping/holiday trips with.

Review: To my surprise, and delight, my young children (6 and 9 years old) are very much into Dungeon and Dragons. Just the mention of it gets them even more excited than the Playstation – which is quite commendable in this digital- and streaming age. However even the basic and standard versions of this game are time-consuming to play. So I was on thelookout for related games with dragons, hero’s and dice that can also be taken along easily on our frequent holidays.Dragonwood is more a dice game than role playing, but the fantasy element is there. To start with, it is a very nicely illustrated its a visually appealing card game, that seems to be of reasonably good quality and is presented very well.It took a small effort to learn the rules and to explain this to the children. But they could swiftly play along. The average games takes us between 15 and twenty minutes, though there is a wide variation – a game might only take a small amount of time in case a dragon shows up early or if you end up with a strong set of cards. It can be played by 2 to 4 players. It’s for 8-year and older however our youngest, that we generally pull along in more complex games, had little problem playing it.In essence, its a card combination game; you collect series of adventurer cards to be able to throw the dice to battle creatures. This in turn wins you points. The aim is to collect the most point value through these creature cards.A wide range of standard fantasy foes is included; goblins, fire- ants, trolls, ogres. There are a few types of cards that you can win by using card combinations of dice throws; ‘Enchantment cards’ can be helpful while ‘event cards’ throw up unexpected events. There are cards that support you with one of the three types of attack, this upgrading has some roleplaying elements. In particular given that one of the challenges is to decide when to play such cards. So this game proved very popular with my children although it took a few practice rounds to get them to grips with it. At the start we always made sure to work from the summary cards. We’ve played it very frequently now. And the children love to introduce it to their friends and cousins. It’s a good, thoughtful game that demands a fair bit of engagement. I quite like the fact that it forces children to consider strategic options and to think about chances/probabilities. While it forces you to train your memory skills. It’s simply FUN to play and even more important is that it allows families and friends to have a good time together. All this combined makes it very good value for money.
