Title: Excellent!
Review: I do not usually write reviews but this book was so good I feel compelled to do so. The book is organized into topics for easy comprehension and application but there are common themes that underlie every idea put forth. They are: classroom management requires teachers to deal with individual problems; when one technique fails try another; some children respond more quickly than others (don’t give up on the slow ones); involve the family; sharing personal experiences helps children deal with their own problems; children may need instruction in how to express their feelings; professional assistance beyond the classroom is sometimes needed and overarching everything PATIENCE AND GOOD HUMOR ARE ESSENTIAL TO SUCCESS. The authors demonstrate their many years of experience working with little ones in the ideas and wisdom put forth in this material. I have been teaching for some time and I have never found a more “user friendly” guide. I know I will use this as my management “bible” as I begin to work with 4 year-olds for the first time. I am so impressed by the love that is weaved throughout this work and I hope to always remember the main point: that children are rational beings who behave in ways that have a pay-off for them. They are not trying to make life difficult and they will respond (although sometimes slowly) when the right changes are implemented. It is the professional teacher’s obligation to find out what is motivating the behavior and change the environmental conditions rather than punish the child. This book is filled with strategies to help implement necessary changes considering a wide array of circumstances and variables.

Title: Fantastic!
Review: It came faster than what I had expected it. I ordered it last minute for my education classes. It didn’t have any writing on it(I bought mine used) and it was practically brand new. Well worth the 3 day wait, and much cheaper than the book store! 🙂

Title: Waste of money! Use your common sense
Review: This book is chock full of basic common sense tips that any teacher knows. It doesn’t expound by providing specific strategies or activities for teaching any of the skills. I feel like I totally wasted my money and there was nothing in it that I could use to provide a resource for my new Pre-K teachers. What a waste and the authors ought to feel ashamed for creating something so pricey and so useless at the same time. If this book really was it is billed, it would have been a terrific resource. One page literally says, “When you see a negative behavior, work to change the behavior and not blame the child.” under the list of solutions. REALLY? I should try to change a negative behavior? No kidding! That’s why I bought the book! For specific techniques, strategies and teacher actions to try. Not basic advice. 200 pages of advice that my grandma could give me. I’m actually pissed that I spent money on this trash. Do your self a favor, buy something else. Or look online for suggestions. You certainly will find something better than this book and almost certainly can’t do worse.

Review: This is a great resource and reminder for teachers. The simplest things are neglected or overlooked, but they are the ones that make all the differience in the classroom. Teachers are reminded of this fact in this book with the illustration and explanation of procedures that work – if used consistently. It walks you through the dialogues you need to have with students whose behavior is challenging too. This is a great resource for teachers!
