Title: Great video quality and easy to install and setup
Review: I got the VIOFO A229 Plus with the front and rear camera after doing a lot of research on the topic. I live in a hot area and needed to minimize any potential heat issues, so I opted for the A220 Plus over the Pro thinking that it’ll run cooler due to the 2K resolution requiring less CPU to process the video.I’ve been using the unit for about 3 weeks now and the 2K video is very sharp with good color, contrast and detail. I have it on 30 fps with the HDR to get the best lighting results in day and night time driving and the videos look really good on my laptop when I transfer the files over. The installation for the front camera was very straight forward and fast. I installed it behind my rearview mirror on the drivers side using the supplied windshield static stickers provided in the kit. Running the wires under my A pillar and under the dash to get it over to my console for power took the longest time for the install as I was very picky about how the cable was routed. This was installed in a mid-sized pickup truck so the cable was long enough to reach from the top center of the front windshield all the way to the cigarette lighter power adapter in my center console storage box. The unit blends in with the black rearview mirror so you don’t notice the camera too much from the outside.I contacted VIOFO with a question before purchasing and their support team got back to me the next day. I asked if you can remove the dashcam from the GPS mount in case I needed to hide it if the car was parked in a sketchy location – to prevent theft. The support rep answered my question and also forwarded me two videos on how to remove and attach the unit, so I was glad to see how it all worked and how fast they responded to my questions. Good pre-sales support! For the rear camera, I spent more time deciding where to put the camera than doing the installation itself. Ultimately, I stuck it to the rear cab driver side window section and ran the cable down the side of the driver headliner molding. VIOFO supplies a lot of cable for the rear camera so I tucked a lot of it in the B and C pillars to hide everything. I have a very dark tinted rear window and the video from the rear camera with HDR enabled came out great. The full sun, cloudy day and night time videos all have good contrast and color with pretty sharp detail even through the dark tinted window.I purchased a 256GB SD card to make sure I can do continuous loop recording for several weeks or more before overwriting. It recognized my SanDisk High Endurance SD card without issues and formatted it quickly for first time use. I tested the feature to protect the video and took multiple still pictures with the camera. Everything worked well. The user manual provided covered everything from set up to initial power up and configuration of the unit and the two camera’s video functions. I’ll set up the WiFi and VIOFO app next to give that a try, but configuring from the unit itself using the menu buttons wasn’t all that hard to do and you can also review all of the recorded pictures and videos on the unit without the phone app too.Overall, I’m really happy with the purchase and it’s working out well. I’ve used other dash cams in the past that mounted on the rearview mirror (replacing it) and wasn’t all that thrilled with the mirror function if I had to turn off the dash cam’s rear camera for any reason. So the VIOFO is a definite improvement over that type of dash cam for my use case.Update: 1/4/2025I got a chance to download the VIOFO app and test the WiFi for the configuration, video review, and download functions today. If you read the lower rated reviews on the app, a lot of it has to do with spotty connectivity and unreliable downloads. I’m a pretty technical network engineer and what others have said on this topic in the reviews are true. There are a lot of things in the car and how your smart phone is configured for WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity that will affect the reliability of the WiFi connection to the VIOFO dashcam. If I leave all of my truck’s connectivity configurations at the default enabled WiFi and bluetooth settings that I normally have enabled, my connectivity to the VIOFO dash cam using the VIOFO app kept dropping and bouncing up and down. If I turn off my phone and car’s bluetooth, turn off the car’s WiFi hot spot, turn off my phone’s auto connect to my home WiFi SSID (to force everything to the VIOFO WiFi) and tell the Android phone to stay connected even though it doesn’t have internet access, the connection is solid and very stable.I changed the VIOFO’s default WiFi password to secure it from the default values and that bounced the VIOFO WiFi (as expected because the password changed) and I had to reconnect to it using the new password. After I played around with all the settings and learned how to get a solid stable connection, I played around with all of the configuration settings on the VIOFO app and they worked as expected. The file recording review feature was good and I turned the audio recording on and off to test if it recorded the radio that was playing in the background and it did. The file download of a 190 MB file to my phone was pretty quick too – less than 15 seconds. So, if you learn how to disable and enable the necessary connectivity options between your car, phone, and VIOFO dashcam, you should be able to get a solid and stable connection.Overall, I’m very pleased with the purchase and all of the features the A229 Plus provides for what I paid. Hope this review helps you out.

Title: A229 Plus Model: reliable functions and great quality videos
Review: This dashcam is very reliable in everything it does. The video quality of its recordings is true to its high-quality resolution advertisement. The sound quality is solid as well in the videos. Sound recording can be enabled or disabled right on the dashcam itself by the touch of a button. It starts recording automatically as soon as it is plugged in.A lot of the settings is straightforward to however you like to adjust the dashcams (front and rear). This ranges from video length recorded to image orientation on the cameras and etc. The cables provided are plentiful in length for both the front and rear cameras in my crossover SUV. Overall, it’s well worth your money and investment.

Title: 7/10 recommend. Easy install, good video. A couple of quirks, but a good cam overall.
Review: Based on reviews of several dashcams, I got 3 VIOFO A229 Plus, 2 channel (front/rear) dash cams. Also got 3 HK4 hardwire kits. Installation was in a 2014 F150, 2020 Forester, and 2021 Escape Hybrid, all done in my garage. I’d previously installed cams in both Fords but the rear cam feature failed after several years and they didn’t have wireless capability, so the upgrade.Install went easily enough, taking about 2 hours each with most of the time spent chasing the rear-cam wire along the inside trim. I didn’t wire in the always-on parking feature as the cars are mostly parked in secure areas and I didn’t want to risk running the batteries down (a too common complaint on the Viofo reddit sub). Locating an appropriate acc fuse was easy enough, just look through your owner’s manual at the fuse box description. 2 of my 3 cars had unused switched fuses. The F150 had fuse location for heated seats that I don’t have so I used that. The cams perform well enough, good video and sound quality. Our older cams had always on screens, so we knew they were on. For whatever reason the Viofo screen blanks after a few minutes (longer if you set it for longer, but no option for always on). The operating lights are on so you know it’s on. Also, it makes an electronic sound when activating. Our old cam activated with that sound instantly with turning on the car. The Viofo requires almost a minute to activate and initially, I’d try to turn it on thinking it wasn’t powering up, because it was taking so long. Of course this meant I was turning it off. So I’d chase the power for a few button pushes until figuring out it just took a while. It has a wireless feature that works with a local wifi connection to a phone. It’s not terribly stable and is sometimes finicky to connect. Still, way better than having to carry a micro sd/adapter and something to read it with when you need to view a video segment. And therein is another issue… the micro sd. I thought I’d set up something incorrectly, as over time I’d get a notice that the card was full and needed to be formatted. Turned out the locked file, where accident/G-activated videos are filed, was full. Cam will overwrite older files so it will last forever. Except that in the case of an accident or other high G-incident, it will save that file to a locked folder that will not be overwritten. Odd, it’s a 512gb Samsung, a good card. It shouldn’t be an issue. Turns out the cam was randomly taking pictures and locking them in the accident folder and filling up the card. I noticed the shutter sounding repeatedly at random times, all on smooth roads and even at full stops. Turns out this is also a common issue on the Viofo sub. It has a user adjustable shock sensitivity, but none of the settings changed the behavior. It’s not a major problem for me, I just try to format the card every now and then, easy with the wifi connection. But still it’s an unnecessary PITA.So 4 stars. I’ve emailed Viofo and will update this review based on their ability to fix this behavior. Not a bad cam and I don’t regret getting 3.

Review: I have received the dash cam a few days back and below is my review:Setup was quick and easy with no issues. I’m using a 128GB SanDisk Max Endurance card, which VIOFO recommends, along with their Viofo-branded card, and it works well.Night recording is excellent, capturing clear details in low light. I plan to get the CPL filter to reduce glare in daytime videos.Firmware update was simple using the steps from VIOFO’s website.Still learning the features, but so far, I’m fully satisfied with the A229 Plus. Great dashcam.
