A quick rundown of this product’s key features:

“This should be required reading by every school administator, every teacher, every board member and all university faculty involved in the training of teachers. There is no doubt that we need to squeeze all blame, all coerion and all criticism out of any people-related business. Not until we realize that schools are in a people business will we ever be able to make meaningful changes.”
–Dr. Albert Mamary, former superintendent of schools, Johnson City, New York

Title: Excellent Book For Teachers
Review: This is an excellent book for teachers to not only read once but to read again and again. Glasser calls for a much different system than exists today. It is one where adults realize that children need us to provide the kind of environment that THEY want to learn in, no the one where we force them to endure boring lessons, do meaningless assignments, and be punished when they send us the message that what we are doing to them isn’t working. As a public school teacher, I realize that I am not going to be able to do all that Glasser recommends in my classroom, but I can adopt his philosophy and make my class more the kind of place that I would want to learn in. This book has inspired me to become a better person who teaches, not just a better teacher. I also feel that Glasser really understands what it is like to teach and how difficult the job is. When you read this book you will feel that finally someone knows what we are up against and stops blaming us for all the problems in schools.

Title: An excellent guide to what is wrong with schools and how to fix it
Review: I like this book even though it was written many years ago. As an international educator I have seen schools with a Boss Management style in many countries. Both educators and parents will benefit from reading it.

Title: Humane education for children
Review: Dr. Glasser offers a simple axiom: caring educators develop caring children. Schools are educational facilities, not penal institutions. For children to become strong, caring participants, they must see strength and care consistently modeled. This book advocates an approach that is supportive, affirming; human.

Title: Glasser Hits the Mark
Review: Good leadership and reform advice for schools and other organizations, based on the Deming quality model. The book has some age on it, but the model is still timely.

Title: Like the first half
Review: Book was for a class, it was a little redundant. The first 6 chapters were all you really need to read. After the first 6 chapters it is the same thing again with different wording. I liked the overall theory and I wish it could be enacted in all schools but the reality is lead-managemnt and quality schools are sadly far from becoming the norm in this country anytime soon!

Title: Change is hard to do.
Review: As I see many of the reviewers here question and doubt the idea of quality schools and choice theory. It has been a few years since I read Choice Theory and Reality Therapy, but I have put the theories into practice in my own life. It is very difficult to let go of the old external control psychology, but it is very possible to make Choice Theory a new habit. Changing the school systems seems like such an enormous task, an almost impossible one. But I think most parents would agree that we need to do something new. There is a reason why Dr. Glasser doesn’t go into deep explaination as to how to bring about a Quality School in his book, because he wants teachers and principles to take his classes to learn the theory. This book is an introduction to the theory not a course in how to practice it. And the one reason I don’t think he has a lot of statistical information in his book is because at the time of writing it, there wasn’t much to give. I believe it is hard for people to admit what they are doing now might not be the best way to do it, thus they resist anything that might suggest to them change. But if you are looking for some way to change your outlook on life, your happiness level, or you child’s schools this book and his others are good investments. These books are unlike any other book you will read in the field of psychology.

Title: A Must Read for those Committed Reforming Education
Review: Following on Dr. Demming’s principle that “Quality is Job #1,” Glasser lays out a practical approach to revitalizing education in the same way that Demming revitalize the Japanese auto industry in post-WWII. By eliminating coersion, and stimulating pride in one’s workmanship by emphasizing quality at every level, from student upto superintendent, it is possible improve the quality of education for all students. It is a humane approach to dealing with problems that plague our schools today: apathy, rebelliousness, low skill and so forth. Glasser boldly demands of us to abandon failing boss tactics that riddle our school for something that will bring the best in everyone.
