Title: great first 18xx game
Review: This is still an 18xx game and so has a lot of obscure rules and bonues that make it a heavy game. But if you are looking to move from other games like age of steam/steam or B&O or other cube delivery and dtock ownership into full fledged 18xx complete with rusting trains, this is a good first step. Love this game.

Title: Ruthless cutthroat railroad baron game for up to 5 players
Review: I really like this game it is a bit long (4+ hours) but once you have a group of friends willing to commit to this for several sessions it becomes really fun, it’s a game about conquering the midwest with railroad companies, however you are an investor so you can purposefully build up or also ruin companies the point is to make the most money in the process. Ultimately it’s a psychological game as well as a strategic game because you need to convince people to work with you and then throw them under the bus at the exactly right moment to emerge victorious.

Title: The best introduction to 18xx games.
Review: High level of quality in this game. Very solid design. No dice rolling or variability in that effect thankfully. Played 4x and really enjoy it.

Title: Good gateway 18xx game (3.5 stars)
Review: 1846 is a good game for beginners into the 18xx genre of games. The rule book is among the shortest I’ve encountered along with the game play. The smaller train card count, linear stock market, and game map is ideal for 18xx gamers that want to spend less time at the table playing one of these games(even though the longer games are better games play-wise). It’s a popular title for the reasons listed above, but lacks the depth of most of the genre because of it’s more linear game play. There are good mechanics in the game with the East-West connection bonuses, tighter map, and private company powers, but experienced players may see very similar games after several plays. It has good replay potential, but there are better games in the 18xx genre.18xx games are heavy weight board games. There is a lot of strategy, foresight, math and time committed to these games. But that is what makes them so good. While some are easier to wrap your head around, like 1846, they are not easy games.
