A quick rundown of this product’s key features:

This is the story of two blades, spears crafted by the hand of the Emperor Himself in the days long before the birth of the Imperium. Linked, equal but opposite, these blades are destined to be wielded by two of the greatest heroes of the Age of Darkness. And as the spears themselves, Appolonian and Dionysian, are equal and opposite, so too are those to whom they were gifted. This is their story too. The warrior-scholar, a savant and a servant. The warrior-king, a savage and a soldier. Their fates entwined in ways they do not understand, they carry the blades as both gift and curse, fulfilment of destiny unseen by any save the Master of Mankind.

Read It Because

This is truly a Horus Heresy story unlike any other. Chris Wraight crafts an elegiac look at two heroes of the Heresy, through the blades that bond them and forge a destiny that may well extend far beyond the stories that have yet been told…

Title: Hands down the best short story of the Horus Heresy.
Review: Chris Wraight is spectacular at this ethereal sort of writing which hints at the truth of the setting but demands reflection.

Title: Only in death
Review: Short and sweet, it’s weird seeing these two figures leave the stage. It’s also strange that they simply just left. Regardless, this book was beautiful.

Title: Awesome read that fills gaps
Review: Great read filling in gaps around two legendary blades. Further gimpses of the greatest battle yet to come. Horus coming to Terra. The greatest pivotal event in WH40K Universe. Even drops hints of perhaps a greater battle to come.

Title: Incredibly interesting read
Review: The talk of return and continuation in the times of Dark Imperium for Russ and Valdor were titulating to say the least. I only wish that they would return to the stories in a meaningful way and most of all, true to their style.

Title: Glorious
Review: I always like the stories in the Fall of Horus/Heresy setting of the Wolfking . This one is so good just due to the fact that it shows that two characters are so very much alike and so very different.

Review: A great insight into 2 characters who are awesome and deserve much more “screen time” than they get in the main novels, especially Constantine Valdor. I’m amazed Valdor has not been given a solo story. Hopefully after this he gets one.

Review: I only have one criticism and that is that the book was too short and finished too soon. It could have been an excellent novel. The best thing, for me, was taking two characters I wasn’t either familiar with (Valdor) or find of (Russ) and making them likeable and relatable.

Review: Interesting stuff from black library here as we delve into the past and present of the Warhammer 40k universe. Potentially some interesting plot threads that could be picked up on by future authors…
