Title: Absolute blast solo
Review: Can’t put it down for long. It’s elder sign but with some really great rule changes and of course a sweet X-Men theme. Favorite parts: heros can assist each other based on the situation; gain and break bonds between heroes; and villains can suddenly appear to throw a wrench in your planning.Played through about half the story cards so far and I am liking this way more than I did elder sign. Game gets very difficult in the later story campaigns. I finally got my gf to play with me a few times and can confirm it’s great both solo and with others.

Title: Nostalgia to the MAX!
Review: I grew up watching the X-Men cartoons and recently introduced my kids to them (all under 10). My kids wanted to be an X-Men and while riding that high, this game was released. This matched the old school cartoon so well and the kid’s were able to to pick their favorite X-Men to go on missions. True, its all a crap shoot and a luck of the di roll, but its simple enough where they could play it with ease. Getting to the “boss fights” were awesome since they had no idea the cards flipped over had a sprawling panoramic view when the cards combined. I agree the mechanics are simple, and it may not have the depth or strategy of other games, or that its “just a reskinned Elder Signs”. But guess what? The theme works, its simple, and there are enough missions and characters to keep things interesting.

Title: A less punishing, highly thematic version of Elder Sign
Review: The core mechanic is basically Elder Sign. However, my main complaint about Elder Sign is that it’s punishingly hard. X-Men: Mutant Insurrection ramps the difficulty down a welcome notch, and it’s a much better setting. It also does an excellent job at using the X-Men theme. I’m a major X-Men fan, and appreciated how deep the comics references were to actual storylines. There’s also a LOT of characters available with a lot of fun abilities. And the game is much more cooperative than Elder Sign, with good mechanics for assisting others on missions.I hope we see more content for this in the future, it’s a fun game!

Title: Enjoyable Game
Review: I really enjoyed this game. The artwork is beautiful. The gameplay was simple, yet fun. Good for solo play or playing with a group. I hope that they come out with expansion packs for it. I actually enjoyed this more than Champions. That could be, of course, due to the fact that there are so few characters available for Champions thus far. Regardless, I immensely enjoyed the game and if you’re a tabletop gamer or an X-Men fan I’d say give it a try.

Title: Nailed the theme, miss on components
Review: FFG nailed the theme and imagery. The gameplay has more going for it than other like games such as Thanos Rising. My biggest issue is with the components. FFG gives you 16 characters plus 1 threat tracker standee but only 7 plastic stands . $3.99 up charge if you want 10 more. After three games, the black ink is already chipping off the dice. They don’t give you enough dice for you to use them as individual success markers on the cards. The success tokens are only useful if all of the requirements on a row are completed. I found myself repurposing the damage tokens to cover individual exact matches so that other players could use the dice. This doesn’t help in situations where one player partially completes a requirement (ie rolled a 2 fight and applied it to a 5 fight requirement). You may need to track this on paper. An unnecessary cheap design decision by FFG. Do it right the first time and reflect it in the price. Dedicated gamers will pay for a strong theme with quality components.

Title: Tedious, Boring, no depth
Review: I’ve had this game for two years so I’ve had time to think and play through it. 100% not worth your time. Overall the game is too complicated and tedious for what it is: a mindless dice rolling game. Little to no strategy, and your entire fate depends on your dice rolls. Draw a bunch of bad mission cards? Too bad, there’s no strategy or mechanics you can deploy to overcome. Just reset the game board (not a simple task!) and try again.I’ve seen reviews that its thematic, and yeah I’ll give it that. But loads of theme and nice artwork do nothing when the game is hollow and boring. Spend your money on anything else. I knew it looked bad during the marketing campaign, but I gave it a chance after release (despite lukewarm reviews) and I’ve regretted buying it ever since.Don’t believe me? 2 years out and no expansions, from a company (FFG) that literally does dozens of expansions per game.Plus they’re now coming out with a (from what we’ve been shown) better, upgraded version called Marvel D.A.G.G.E.R. When the parent company can’t even justify making an expansion, you shouldn’t justify buying it.

Review: With a few house rule tweak to make it harder and playing with 5 characters this is a great game. The components are really nice. No need to paint mini as it comes with standees.
