Title: A book full of simple, doable, and flavorful recipes from BA!
Review: I have been using Blue Apron for over a year now. Aside from the convenience, what really keeps me coming back to Blue Apron is its simple and easy but flavorful recipes which are developed by the chefs who graduated from Culinary Institute of America.Just to try out if this book also pleases my tastebuds, I followed two recipes (one fish and one meat) from the cookbook. The first dish I made was “Shallow Poached Fish with Fragrant Vegetable”. All I needed to do was to heat up spices in the oil, cook veggies and tomato paste, add white wine, add a white fish, and cover with a baking paper to cook. In less than 30 mins or so, the dish was ready at a table. The broth which was made from the veggies and fish was very flavorful and my husband and I cleaned the last bit of meal with a baguette. The second dish I tried was “Roasted chicken and veggies in a pot”. It was again a very simple recipe, although it took about an hour in total. Sear chicken, cook veggies, add white wine and some herb, and put them in the oven. The dish was very flavorful and the broth was just amazing. We again cleaned the plate with some bread. The way Blue Apron presents the recipe is very well organized. Instead of having a dozen steps, most recipes are described in about 5-8 steps. It makes it easy for me to conceptualize the cooking process to make one dish, and it allows me how to create my own variation more easily. I understand that the recipes are different from what is usually included in the Blue Apron box, which is a streamlined version of a main and side dish usually. (However, the book does suggest some accompaniments for some dishes. ) I personally prefer how this book is laid out because I can choose what to cook.Although this book does not come with ingredients delivered at the door, this book is full of Blue Apron spirits: simple enough to cook at home (they do not call for 25-year old balsamic vinegar) and the flavors are spot on! I highly recommend this book for a chef-at-home!

Title: Much more than a cookbook. It’s an instruction manual.
Review: This is much better and more comprehensive than I expected. It could be used as a textbook for how to equip a kitchen, prepare and cook food. Beautiful photos, clearly written text and great recipes, may of which I have not received in two years as a Blue Apron customer. I will be giving this to relatives next Christmas, and to others who could benefit from it.

Title: An Impressive Cookbook
Review: The Blue Apron Cookbook, which was released this month, is a very impressive cookbook. Typically, I like cookbooks focused on a particular cuisine, such as Italian or Japanese, but this one has 165 recipes covering just about everything. There are 2-3 pages for each recipe with easy to follow instructions and photographs taking one through the prepping process to how the dish should look when finished. It begins with some basic knowledge, such as what are the essential tools for your kitchen, as well as knives, pots and pans. It moves on via photographs showing basic prep skills such as coarsely chopped to finely chopped. If you had only one cookbook in your kitchen, this is the one.

Title: Good Cookbook, Unacceptable Index
Review: Blue Apron is a company that sends “meals in a box”: prepped ingredients and detailed instructions delivered weekly to your door, ready for you to finish on the stove or oven. I don’t subscribe to their service, but their menus looked intriguing enough that, when I saw they had a cookbook, I decided to give it a try.As a self-taught cook, I need a lot of hand-holding – step by step instructions, lots of pictures of what things should look like at each stage of the process, and clear notes about what kind of equipment is needed. The Blue Apron Cookbook does all that, and I happily recommend it, especially to beginner-level home chefs like me who want to make fancier looking (but still easy) meals. There’s the usual chapter on stocking your kitchen (equipment and staples), and thankfully it tells you something I wish more cookbooks did: define what a “medium” this or a “large” that really means. It’s annoying when a recipe says “use a medium pot” and you’re left wondering “okay, does your ‘medium” mean my ‘medium?’” So, points earned, here.Recipes are divided into chapters both by type of methods (e.g., braises and roasts) and by type of meal (sandwiches and risottos). Directions are step-by-step and have plenty of pictures, and always tell you up front what equipment you need. There are helpful tips and sidebars, such as how to clean leeks or capers, and suggested variations.None of the recipes are difficult, though I think sometimes some are aimed at higher than average budgets; how many of us have leftover roast lamb for sandwiches? Still, there aren’t any real budget-busters in here either, particularly if you ignore their constant admonitions to buy the “freshest, best ingredients.” Sometimes, the pack of Foster Farms breasts on-sale will have to do.I’ve only made a few of the recipes so far, but they were delicious: for instance the white risotto with parmigiano-reggiano and the crispy-seared chicken thighs with mushrooms. I’m looking forward to cooking my way through the whole book.I have two complaints about the book: one niggling and one serious. The minor criticism is their constant use of the word “flavorful.” Honestly guys, there are synonyms and you can look them up online.More seriously, this Kindle version commits the egregious sin of having a flat index – no tappable links. Page numbers in the index don’t match the page numbers in the e-book, so you have to search manually. That’s inexcusable for such a nice cookbook and this far into the age of e-books. So, one star deducted. That aside, I do like the Blue Apron Cookbook quite a bit and recommend it for people looking for impressive, tasty yet easy to make recipes in a book that has instructional value.

Title: Great guide!
Review: I bought this as a gift for my sister, whose been a Blue Apron subscriber for years. This book is beautiful and – in addition to recipes – includes great instruction on basic cooking techniques (creating veggie purees, braising and roasting, searing, etc.), how to stock your pantry, what tools to have on hand and how to use them. My whole family browsed the book on Christmas and then ordered their own.

Title: Accessible, functional recipes for delicious food
Review: Gosh I love Blue Apron. They have simple, easy to follow recipes with basic ingredients and simple techniques. You don’t have to buy $10 worth of an exotic ingredient you’ll use once, or have five different kinds of frying pans or whatever. It’s so accessible.I haven’t tried any of their recipes yet but when I do I’m sure I’ll up their rating to 5 stars.Edit: And I did
