Title: A Welcomed Addition to the Series
Review: I am a huge fan of the Commands & Colors: Napoleonics games, yet this was the last expansion I purchased for it.Why? Initially, I had a sour impression about it. Reviewing the Spanish Army stats, they are poor. Historically, a ruined administration from French occupation and poor military leadership resulted in the Spanish Army’s performance. However, playing defensively and using the Guerrilla Action Counters at the right time will secure a Spanish victory in a good deal of the scenarios.Speaking of them, the Guerrilla Action Counters are a welcomed addition to the game. They permit the Spanish player to ignore a French Command Card’s orders, which is excellent for delaying their movements and setting your units up for a decisive attack (if the dice play in your favor).The scenarios focus on the battles of the Peninsular War, similar to the base game. However, some battles allow a mix of forces for both side, to include a scenario or two with an Anglo-Portuguese army.I am happy that the gameplay mechanics destroyed the first impressions of this game. This is a great, yet challenging addition to the game, and it is highly recommended for the Commands & Colors: Napoleonics enthusiast.
