Title: Out of 212 diets – this one worked.
Review: This is the only diet that has worked for me. I have sent this book to a number of my friends, I weighed 365 when I got the book. I have lost 76 pounds. I lose one pound per week. I am at 289 and shooting for 225. I was morbidly obese. I learned a lot. I scorned spuds – now I eat them every day. I thought fish was a diet food. I no longer eat avocadoes or peanuts. A Mickey D double cheezeburger costs me 2 pounds each. It puts on a pound and I dont’t lose a pound that week. Same with BK’s Whopper JR. I used to buy a double cheeze burger on the way to food shopping — so I wouldn’t be hungery while shopping. I don’t do that any more. I am now in the habit of driving straight home after a trip to town and not stopping in for a burger on the way home — like I used to. I tried all the other diets–and none of them worked. When I go to an all you can eat buffett, I fill up with fruits and vegetables. I am just as full as I used to be eating the non VEGAN food. The first few months on the diet, the VEGAN food would not sustain me for more than about three hours. Title: Can’t Throw all the food out.
Review: The principal of this book and the recipes are very good. Although I haven’t totally finished reading the book they look interesting.However,the good doctor must be making to much money and thinks that everyone is the same as him rolling in dollars.He suggests in this book to through all your fat producing foods out, which theoretically makes sense to get rid of any fat producing food. However, if you are like my wife and myself you can’t afford to do that. We have between $2000.00 and $3000.00 worth of regular roasts, prime rib roast which I know there are 5 of left, plus lobster, king crab etc. in the freezer. The food banks will not take it and we are not wasting it. However, we will leave it alone for three weeks, try some of his recipes and see if we like it and if it makes any difference. We may not be able to do his diet. If we don’t like it we won’t do it.Tried some soy milk last night it awful, can’t drink it. So if we had thrown out all our food and milk it would have been a big waste.

Title: Some good info
Review: I chose this rating because its mostly vegetarian and has a lot of tofu, yogurt info. I am not a tofu or yogurt person and I do not drink milk, as I don’t like it and get ill from it. I do not use any dairy or non dairy products other than some cheese. I did like the info on fruits, nuts, and vegetables. I also do eat lean red meat, poultry, pork and fish. We buy organic as much as possible and eat fresh or frozen. I buy very little processed foods. As I said there’s good info in this book and someone leaning toward the vegetarian lifestyle would really like it, so yes I would recommend it for them.

Title: Simplifies the information
Review: I would consider myself fairly well informed on diets and health, but new information is emerging all of the time and on the advice of a friend who is a cardiologist, I have decided to try a vegan diet. This is not my first go and in the past I have been put off by missing my favorite tastes like chicken and cheese and other dairy. But as I have learned more about the benefits of this diet, I have been able to get past some of this. I also need to lose weight. Because of my busy schedule, I needed something that basically cuts to the chase and this book does just that. I would recommend it for anyone considering a vegan lifestyle because the information is easily digestible and not overwhelming, which is the basic premise of the book.

Title: changed my thoughts about carbohydrates!
Review: I’ve always leaned toward becoming a vegetarian and after reading Dr. Barnard’s two books (the other being “Breaking the Food Secuction” I am now giving it a try. For years I’ve cut out beef, pork and chicken only consuming fish and turkey cutlets thinking I was doing myself a favor. Turns out fish is just as bad as the other meats, some of it containing high fat content, but mainly because of the contaminents. The oceans are highly contaminated and farm raised is the worst. The hard part is eating lots and lots of complex carbs and fiber and training my brain to think it’s a good thing! Of course lots of fruits and vegetables also. I’ve only been doing it for a few weeks now but I feel so much more energy and feel fuller throughout the day cutting down on the hungry feeling I used to get later in the day. Not only that but I’m losing weight! Great book and lots of good recipes too.

Review: Maybe I just had the wrong expectations, but I thought this would be a bit more science based and discuss things like metabolism and how the body processes food. This is really simplified and most of it is just recipes.I personally don’t like recipe books without photos, so was really disappointed.I paid over $26 for it. I would have been ok with this if it were maybe $12 maximum, but it’s not worth $26.I returned this for a refund.

Review: Some time ago I got hold of a book called fat burning foods. Since then I have been fascinated by the idea. A few weeks ago I downloaded a copy of Neal Barnards 21 day weightloss kickstart. I wanted to find a way to eat that would allow me to adjust my weight slowly over time without a diet as such. The book was really good. Based on cutting out certain foods it does just that. I tried out a few of the recipes and between my partner and I we noticed that we immediately had more energy, were fuller longer and we were losing weight. On the back of that discovery we decided to take things a little more seriously and switch to eating that way all the time. We got hold of this book to compliment what we were now doing and to get the recipes it contains. That was about two months ago and we have both been slowly and steadily losing weight ever since. So far I’ve lost just under a stone.The thing to know about the recommendations in this book is that for some people they will be hard to switch to. If your diet is heavily meat oriented you will not have such an easy time of changing as I did. However, the book is full of real examples of what your food does to you and why you should consider changing the way you eat.The bottom line is this. Regardless of how bizarre it sounds when I say I have not cut down my food intake and I have still had the above experience.. it’s true. Neal Barnard’s advice has really worked for me (and my partner). What do you have to lose?

Review: Consigliato da una ragazza che da anni segue il Dr Neil Barnard, ho voluto approfondire anche io la questione delle calorie negative. Il concetto generale delle calorie oggi è stato un po’ rivisto ma continua ad essere importante in ambito nutrizionale. I consigli del Dr Barnard sono utili e le sue idee ben spiegate, ovviamente poi vanno bilanciate con la cultura enogastrionomica italiana, molto diversa e sicuramente meno dannosa di quella americana. Lettura scorrevole anche se in lingua inglese, mi piacerebbe (in quanto professionista del settore sanitario) poterlo tradurre in italiano e bilanciarlo con i principi della dieta mediterranea, patrimonio immateriale dell’umanità.
