Title: Works Great! The Best Radar Detector Purchase I have ever made.
Review: I own this, and purchased it a long time ago before receiving items to review. I have been extremely happy with its performance, features and support! There may be slightly fancier models available from other manufacturers, maybe Uniden by now; (I haven’t checked the market recently) but this is all you really need.It gives great alerts, allows you to adjust the display, has a mute/mark button on the power cable and is reasonably priced. I also own the Escort 9500i. It is a great detector as well. Neither has let me down. The only tickets I have received are when I’m letting my mind wander while driving, or really listening to my music instead of the detectors. The big difference? You must PAY for database updates with the Escort. Another Subscription!!! The nice, customer service oriented people at Uniden, on the other hand, regularly update the database and DON’T charge you to do so. Simply download, hook up and update. Performance compared between the two models has been the same for me. I realize newer models are out now, but comparing what I own, I’m sticking with Uniden. This detector works great, and you can’t beat the database and firmware updates @ no additional cost.

Title: Great Product. NOT user-friendly…
Review: I bought this detector because other reviews said quote; “False alert city.” <--- This to me means a superior product because its more sensitive than other detectors. My research online and via reviews also confirms that this detector is the most sensitive on the market. Quiet Mode is amazing along with self-selecting sensitivity based on speed.THIS RADAR DETECTOR IS NOT USER-FRIENDLY!!! (I would underline this if I could)If you want something you just plug in and it works, this detector is not for you. Firmware updates require a laptop or PC to complete (But the process is simple.)Here are some GOOD instructions on how to update firmware for any of the R-models:Google search: "Uniden (Revision #) R7 firmware update."This will take you to Uniden's firmware download page. The only thing you want or need is the Windows/Mac installer (Whichever one you use) download and run from PC.Using the USB cable that comes with the unit, plug it in to the PC and to the radar detector.Run the installer. After installation, configure your radar detector settings.I would suggest letting the radar detector senitivity be set based on speed automatically and enable quiet drive with the limit set to 20 or 30mph depending on user-prefrences.Save and ExitYou may now mount your radar detector and plug it in.Anyone complaining about "false alert city" did not configure their radar detector properly for their environment (And probably manually set it to LONG range)This is the quietest and most accurate radar detector ive ever owned.COBRA cant hold a candle to the quality this unit possesses. If you are looking for a Radar Detector that is ALSO user-friendly, I strongly recomend Escort. The premium you pay with them is for User-Friendlyness. (They have a REALLY simple software suite thats easy for the avg user to use and access.)My ONLY complaint is that this unit isnt user friendly and it didnt matter to me at all but might to others. Take the time, configure the product for the way you want it and itll pay dividends. It will NOT simply work the way you want it to out of the box.PS: Ive figured out the complaints people have about the false alerts.Smart cars with radar proximity sensors. My car has it. It uses 3-4 frequencies that the radar detector ALWAYS triggers on if there are cars or walls around. To fix this, making sure auto-mute is enabled, allow muting of KA band. There is a toggleable setting to ignore weak signals and this needs be enabled as well. After your next drive, your UNIDEN will automatically start ignoring the radar signals as they start to spam you and auto-mute them.I also want to note; This radar detector managed to detect a cop running active scanning while driving around 3 turns. Ive never seen a radar detector manage this feat. I detected him about a half mile away around 3 turns. Crazy good detection now that its configured properly. Changing my rating to 5/5. It takes some configuration but ive never used a better radar detector. Reviewer: Eric Ruth

Title: As easy or technical as you chose to make it, & this sucker’s got serious range!
Review: Mine came with the newest firmware, newer than Uniden had available for downloading. When you select the menu it first asks if you want the Easy or Advanced menu. I went right for the advanced & holy crap! This thing has a LOT of customizable settings! I was thoroughly impressed.Scanning is completely customizable. Select which bands you want it detect, the range of their frequency to alert, separate alert tones for each, as well as differentiating the arrow colors on the display screen for each. You can set priority for band notifications so if it picks up multiple bogeys it’ll alert you in the hierarchy of importance that you’ve chosen. You can select what speed you want the “quiet mode” to activate to help keep it quiet when rolling through places like a parking lot with automatic door sensors. I could go on & on, but that’s what the owners manual is for.The very first time I pulled out of my neighborhood with the R7 it immediately started alerting & kept going. My mind flashed to reviews saying this thing can be chatty & after alerting for 2 miles I assumed it was a false detection, but as I approached mile 3, low & behold there was one of the radar trailers parked & running on the side of the road! My first detection came from 3 miles away! And that was on a residential street through town, not out in the open desert that I bought it for.I am also pleased to say that I don’t find the R7 chatty at all. I read that the new firmware that mine came with is supposed to vastly improve filtering false alerts. I haven’t experienced an R7 with the old firmware for a comparison, but it is a lot quieter than I expected it to be. There’s a single road across the desert to get to where I live, & the population here is over 60K.. so there’s literally several thousand cars sharing that one road everyday. I was expecting (per reviews) the R7 to pickup a lot of blindspot monitoring radar while sitting in rush hour traffic, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised that it actually stays very quiet. So far I’ve only had it about 10 days, but I’m definitely happy with it & impressed by it. I’ll update this review when I’ve had the detector longer, but as of now I highly recommend the R7 & am definitely happy with my purchase.** Update:The longer I have it, the happier I am with it. The self leaning/muting feature works quite well! Everywhere I go in town it has already mapped & filters out false signals. Between that & the speed setting for quiet alerts I rarely hear this thing. When it does detect, it’s usually from 2-3 miles away on straight roads.I thought the arrows were mostly going to be a novelty for me, but I actually do use them. My cousin was in the car a couple nights ago & she asked about the arrows, so I explained the basics to her. 2 miles down the road I hit an intersection that lit this R7 up like a Christmas tree!! Without any further explanation from me, she was immediately noticed the arrows pointing in all directions & showing different frequencies for each direction, proving that it was picking up multiple bogeys & not just radar reflections. Intuitive enough for her to figure out, & detailed enough to clearly differentiate each bogey. I feel that I got my $460 worth from this purchase. (I have a 600hp car & so far, this nanny has done her job well.)
