Title: Ahhh, They Take Me Back.
Review: There’s a reason these candies have been around for around one hundred years. They are so good. They’re sufficiently sweet without being too much so, and they have the perfect amount of licorice flavoring. It’s not so subtle that you can’t taste it, but also not so overpowering, either. It’s just a very pleasant licorice flavor. I would caution that they are fairly large and would definitely be a choking hazard for a child. If you love hard candies, and like black licorice flavor, then buy these. You’ll be happy that you did.

Title: Just to clear a few things up
Review: First off I love this licorice candy. As a kid I always loved Good & Plenties and Switzer’s black licorice. Something I noticed in the reviews were complaints regarding “artificial” flavor”. A quick online search of black licorice and you’ll find the difference between “black licorice root” which contains a drug: glycyrrhizin, which can affect your heart if over consumed, and “anise” (anise oil) which comes from a seed (natural) and is used to “artificially” flavor many things including this and many other candies and has no known side affects or adverse reactions. I would suggest if this brand of licorice doesn’t suit your tastes you look elsewhere from products that contain “black licorice root”. At your own risk of course. As an aside we’ve used anise oil for years on bait while ice fishing. There are times when it’s a good trigger for fish, other times not so much. 🤷‍♂️😊

Title: Excellent licorice, but “finest ingredients is the usual marketing manure
Review: It’s hard to find excellent licorice anymore. That Australian pseudo licorice is taking over it seems. So when it comes to flavor, these almost nail it completely. It’s about 95% of the way there. The problem is what it reads on the label/packaging: The “finest ingredients”. Yeah, right. Sure, uh-huh. BULL. Artificial dyes. Some of you won’t care, that’s fine. But for those who do, there are several. Several of the FD&C dyes are implicated in causing moderate to serious health issues. I have to be careful about red dye, as it has caused some problems in the past. I wish I’d read the label sooner. What gets me is this. If it is the finest ingredients, then it stands to reason that costs more than the standard ingredients. Well, if that’s the case, then why not use *other* sources of coloring like many other companies do? Hmm? I’m sure it’s the age old reason, profits. Or they just are to lazy and complacent to make a change. so here we are, more garbage in what we consume that we don’t need.Truth is, I don’t need the sugar anyway. But if none of this matters to you, then it’s a pretty darn good licorice. It’s *not* the kind of licorice with the intense anise taste that annoys most people, but serious licoriphiles crave so much, but it is very good.As someone once wrote: The Grateful Dead are like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice, but those who do, *really* like licorice.Oh, and that Australian abomination that passes for licorice is a heresy. True believers should smite the unfaithful.
