Title: Informative with very complete instructions.
Review: I purchased the book after signing up for a class with one of the authors through my quilt guild. My presumption was I would be creating a contemporary quilt after seeing two sample blocks; but, to my surprise, I read in the book that it is truly a “revival” of a historical method of making quilts, so there is something for eveyone in learning the technique. It seems to be much easier than the stained glass quilt technique with similar results. The book contains detailed instructions on the process, including patterns, so even without a class it would be possible to create quilts using this technique, although I am a big fan of taking a class if the author is available to teach. You always learn more as a student and I enjoy the comeraderie of other quilters.

Title: best for those who love applique
Review: Fell in love with the cover design only to find even more inside that were just as amazing. The process is actually quite simple and works best with someone used to the turn under method of appliqueing. There are many options given and of course the patterns are full size so are easy to trace, no enlarging necessary unless you wish to make the piece larger (which they give as an option). Great for people who collect their scraps!!! I can’t wait to start on two of the patterns and then make up some of my own. A simple concept with beautiful results.

Title: A must have for all appliquers!
Review: This book is wonderful. Full of history as well as technique and patterns. It is a must for all applique folks who want something new/old. I am using this technique in my current quilt. I only gave it a four because the patterns are 10 inch by 10 inch which required special photo copying at a local copy shop since a standard printer/scanner page is 8×11. Since I live in a small country town it was quite expensive to have them enlarged to a larger 12 x 12 size. Small town copy shop rates are outrageous! Anyway, it would have been nicer to have had these on a CD and then I could have worked them to the desired size I needed in my photo software and printed them accordingly.

Review: Very well written book, instructions are great. Nice to see a book on revivals of older style quilt patterns and styles. Templates are easy to use. I used freezer paper as directed and it worked well. The blocks in this book are portable so it can travel nicely.

Review: The cover image is lovely and I am always interested in new techniques and so this book has been on my list a while, however I was very disappointed when it arrived. The quality of the book feels poor with a thin cover and in fact a pretty slim book. The nicest quilt is the one on the front, images inside, I think, are dated and not very attractive or inspiring. There is a section on the history of this technique which is ok. Techniques are described clearly, but actualy the technique is essentialy applique. The following projects just feel dull to me and not very creative. Of course we all have our own styles and preferences and I can look past colours that I don’t particularly like but I am not inspired. This book would be worth taking out at your local library or borrowing from someone else. But I certainly wouldn’t buy it again and will be finding a new home for mine.
