Title: Great game!
Review: My husband & I started really getting into games while in quarantine back in 2020. We’ve accumulated a pretty good collection and were looking for something a bit different. We love this game – it’s relatively easy to learn and has good gameplay. 10/10.

Title: Nice art, mediocre game
Review: This is of course subjective, but the game wasn’t for me. It’s one of those where there’s a million ways to do the same thing, and you’re never really rewarded for doing it one way over another. Needlessly complex for a game where all you’re doing is scoring points. The art and product design is fantastic though, so that alone makes it a nice addition to the shelf.

Title: Good First Dice Placement Game
Review: If you want to dip your toes into the water of dice placement games, this is a good place to start. You roll the dice; you place your regular and elemental dice, and you carry out actions. Actions get you companions and forest tiles and do other things, from changing dice values to clearing dice off the cards. The actual game feels like a cross between Unearthed and Parks. If you find this game simplistic, Lewis and Clark or Merchants of the Dark Road are a good step up, but if you want to learn dice placement with your family/children, this is a good beginner’s choice.Just be aware that “mean” actions (take that!) are essential to gameplay. You will kick people out of actions and ruin their plans, and that’s how the game is played. Stay away if you don’t like player interaction and some meanness in your games. Also, take a good look at the art. A lot of people like it. I do not.

Title: Fast and attractive area control/worker placement type game!
Review: This game comes in a good quality box with attractive artwork on it. All the game pieces are well-designed and have fascinating artwork. The game is fairly simple to learn, and the rule book is pretty great to explain everything and includes visual examples of the different situations to further clarify everything. There are extra rules that you can use in your game if you want, but they are mainly recommended for when you get a good idea of the rules and are comfortable with a little bit more complexity added to the game.According to the box, the gameplay is 45-90 minutes, but honestly, the game is a shorter than that unless you have someone in your group who needs to think for a long time every time, they want to place a die lol. I usually think a lot myself before I make my moves, but even then, 90 minutes game play was not even close. The game box has a good design and is smaller than what I expected. There are not many pieces in the game, the game components are: a small village board, four character-boards, a lot of dice, a big deck of cards and a lot of tokens such as potion ingredients and VP tokens. The game insert is mainly good, it has separate spots for the cards and for the dice, however, the compartments for the tokens have odd shapes and you have to push all the tokens to spread them in there by force.Game play:The goal of the game is to get more VP points than the other players at the end of the game. You get VP points from the potions that you brew, the creatures you train, the forest cards you control and the VP points that you get during the game by doing special actions. Each turn, you can place a die on a spot with the same symbol as your die and claim the ingredients to pay for potions, or train creatures. To control a forest, you need to have more of your dice colors than anyone else at the end of each round. The creatures have on-going abilities that can get your more ingredients or VP points and the potion cards have one-time abilities to help you get closer to your goal. The game play is more like a mix of dice worker placement with area control. There is a lot to think about when you are placing any of your dice if you want to be strategic, but there is also the luck item in the game from rolling the dice to drawing the new potion and creature cards.Pros:Entertaining game, very good artwork on the cards and the board, good quality cards and a nice box.Cons:Depending on the players, there can be a big down time in the game between each two actions.Overall, I would recommend this game. The game is reasonably priced and entertaining 😊.

Title: Much more fun than I thought it was going to be!
Review: I had been hearing a lot about this game. So, I decided to give it a try and order it. The price point was extremely reasonable for a board game from such a reputable company. When I received it, I was surprised at the size of the box. And, after unboxing the game, my initial reaction was that all of the pieces seemed to be “miniaturized”. I thought that I was getting a typical board game and I just felt that I was going to have a difficult time dealing with the tiny tokens, etc.The rules weren’t overly complex but they weren’t overly simple either. There seemed to be a lot of nuances so we kept the booklet handy while we started our first game. We quickly had to clear up a few questions that we had with some of the creature powers and this was the only issue that needed some clarification. There really needs to be a little more clarity on the creatures that require a die to activate. But, after some thought and discussion, we agreed on the interpretation of the cards.Once that issue was taken care of, the game evolved into a mental battle. There are so many things that must be considered when making a move and there seemed to be a variety of strategies that could be followed! If you enjoy playing a game that can easily change on a dime and involves tense decision making, this is the game for you.I disagree with the age range on the box. The level of thinking required to play this game is on a fairly high plane. And, there is a large portion of the game that involves the use of “take that” mechanics. Younger children might be really put off by having their plans completely ruined in one fell sweep – which is a common occurrence!Because I was totally pulled into the clever interplay of the game after a round or two, the size of the tokens and board did not bother me. Rather, I appreciated that there was a lot of space left in which to keep track of everything that I acquired during game play. When the game reached its conclusion, we genuinely had no idea who won. And after the scores were tallied, it was super close! That demonstrated how well balanced the game is.Even considering that some time was spent trying to clarify a few of the rules, it was not a short game. For the modest price, this game packs a large punch. If you enjoy games that really require you to plan, think and strategize, you will undoubtedly enjoy the sophistication of BREW. I am looking forward to sharing it with some other friends as soon as possible and I believe that it will be the hit of game night.
