Title: Just the facts
Review: Please note that this math book is aimed at a mature audience. There aren’t any cute cartoons or anecdotes to be found here. What you get are clear and thorough explanations of the subject matter (in this case, fractions) accompanied by a good amount of practice problems.A very nice and unusual feature of this book is that most of the answers provided to the exercises are broken down in the answer key, so you’re not left hanging if you get a question wrong. The author even provides you with contact information should you believe you find an error in the text – that’s a first. :)So for older kids or adults who are looking for a good review of working with fractions without distractions, this is a great resource! 🙂

Title: Really helped my kid
Review: My daughter who is in the 4th grade was struggling with fractions no matter how many times I’ve explained and showed her examples. So I decided to get her this book that has explanations and examples. By the time she finished this book she finally understood and now able to do fractions with no issues. Strongly recommend it for homeschooling.

Title: Great book!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I bought three and did the entire book with my children. There was so much I had forgotten! It was fun to laugh with them and get stomped from time to time. Chapter 11 was way too long. I think it should have been broken up into maybe three chapters. But overall, well written with great examples and practice. I suggest getting another workbook for review if this is your main text book. Otherwise it’s just perfect.

Title: Who is this book for??
Review: Wow. Oh dear. Do not buy this book if you or the intended recipient have any lust for life or curiosity or even breath within them. It is especially ill suited for children so I believe the book must primarily be for adults? It begins where you’d want – with slices of pie. But instead of moving on to simple addition and subtraction of fractions with the same denominator it is already talking about reducing fractions – which require multiplication and division- on the very next page. While many skills and operations are listed as being within the book including multiplication and division of fractions, I didn’t think it would be required within the first 6 pages. So the problem here is primarily that the book was ill suited to my purposes. My purposes were a great introduction to fractions for children, that built up to extensions of that foundation, and included at a similar level the related topics of decimals and percentages. It looks to be more geared toward adults who need a refresher for some results oriented reason. This informs the secondary problem I had which was its incredible dryness and wall of text layout. If I was using the book to teach a 17 year old I MIGHT be able to convince them I wasn’t a sadist if my teaching was quite inspired. It is possible the explanations in the book are good but if so I wouldn’t be able to tell you because I would have had to have been able to swallow them first – therefore to my mind if you can’t get the message across it’s irrelevant how good the message itself is. No such thing as silly end users, only bad code. Perhaps can be used as a reference book.

Review: Fractions were my pet hate in maths but after needing to learn fractions to pass an exam I wanted to find a book that exsplains them well. This was perfect. It was written in a very simple way of understanding and I love how it reminds you throughout the book, sections you’ve learnt and it prompts you where to find it incase you might of forgotten.
