Review: Timely reading in light of the Philadelphia Taney Little League team who inspired all of us with their baseball abilities and down to earth TEAM approach to all the publicity they received this Summer, including a photo of Mo’ne on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Title: Good for Early Readers
Review: Matt Christopher does a nice job writing books that will appeal to boys. My three year old is ready for longer stories that still contain pictures and are not too complex. This book fits that bill. It is a nice choice for a child who has some basic reading skills and also a nice choice for reading aloud to younger children who are able to listen to longer stories. It is not great literature, but it serves the purposes it was written for very well. It is not one of our toddler’s favorite books, those are all about construction vehicles, but he does choose to have it read once a week or so. That makes it a nice addition to our home library. My wife is a former teacher and she says this book would be a good addition to her classroom library for her K-1-2 students learning to read.

Title: Great Book!
Review: My grandson needed a book to make a book report on and also make an art project. This book was perfect since my grandson plays baseball and is a pitcher too. He loved the story.

Title: A Smart Dog
Review: When I read this story it reminded me of a book I read a few years back by Dean Koontz. There was a dog named Einstein in this story, a stray dog, that the new owner couldn’t figure out. He did his best to be a friend but nothing worked until he learned that the dog could read. Then starts a delightful story with lots of humorous problems like what was his reading level, could the subject matter be boring, and how will he turn the pages? Surely a story that would attract an audience of all ages.In this story, The Dog That Pitched a No-Hitter, that same kind of a dilemma takes place only this time it’s Harry, the dog, helping his best pal Mike by giving him helpful tips on the baseball field so that he, Mike, could be a better pitcher. And who says dogs aren’t smart or that they are man’s best friend?Matt Christopher gives kids another classic baseball story with lots of humor along with some new full color illustrations, and I strongly recommend that every kid read this.
