Title: You will not be able to suspend disbelief in this novel that NEEDS AN EDITOR
Review: The first novel in this three-book AFTER THE LIGHT series, FALLEN EMPIRE, would have benefitted from extensive editing. There are time and continuity errors throughout, along with missing and misspelled words.I was unable to suspend disbelief in so many parts of the story–like right after the first forest fire that spread to the parking lot where everyone covered in fire blankets but then were able to walk away from the area almost immediately, despite the fact that the fire would have still been raging all around them and that the ground would have been too hot. Or when 100 people crammed into the basement (built to house and feed 4 people for 1 month) to escape the Russians. Or when the Humvee could not chase Luke through the woods but was then later able to chase the wife and kids through the woods… and on and on and on.Characters who were actively engaged in a scene tend to just disappear for a while.POV changes within chapters and the narrator often pops up and tells the reader things that would be better shown through live scene.Also, the second novel in this series (which is depicted on the book spine as Widow Mountain) is called INTO THE DARK and is not written by James hunt but is, in fact, written by Robert J Walker. I have not started it yet. Hope it is not as dreadful as Fallen Empire.
