During the Great Depression of the 1930s, a colorful former bootlegger and smuggler, Quebec Bill Bonhomme (Kris Kristofferson), rounds up his reluctant brother-in-law (Gary Farmer), his ex-con hired man (William Sanderson), and his ultra-cautious 15-year-old son, Wild Bill (Charlie McDermott), and sets out from rural Vermont for the Canadian wilderness to steal 20 cases of whiskey. Each man knows that many a booze runner who has crossed the border to steal liquid gold from their Canadian counterparts has vanished without a trace.
